Here is a little I found on it from MS. Link Maybe Taw or Esq can go further with it. If you could list a little more info about your computer, it might help. Speed, meme, OS, ect.

oh dear oh dear. lsass is the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service, this basically is what allows you to logon to Windoze.

if this was me, I'd try to get XP (presumably) into safe mode and see if lsass is disabled as a service, and re-enable it and reboot. If that doesn't work, I'd run the repair console or Automated System Recovery and repair it, if that fails, then reinstall Windows (as a repair) over the top of your existing installation, then run a registry repair utility. You could also try Sytem Restore, if you have a restore point prior to this going wrong. Hope that helps, tried to keep it short n sweet.

d'you think i should give out the registry fix or not? means a fair bit of editing, think Sytem restore would be safer. wodjoo fink, Esq?

I agree, let's go with the simple stuff first. You've seen what the less-technical types do to the registry (usually "by accident" ).

i tried all the options in the f8 button and th message still keeps comming up when i put the xp cd in to it the thing dosent catch i mean the xp cd wont do nothin

Are you able to boot up after the error message or are you completely locked out?
If you cannot boot up in safe mode, your only option is to try doing a repair install. You'll need to go into your BIOS and set up the boot order to boot from the CD/DVD-ROM first. Then save the settings and exit the BIOS, then insert your XP CD and follow the prompts. Try a repair install first.

do what Mustie sez, it's by far the safest and least troublesome way (UNLESS you know exactly what you're doing, which you don't - no offence btw ) I presume you have a proper bootable XP cd and not some cr*pola recovery disk; 'kin hate those things.

apply one of the most useful human inventions: the gun. shoot it.

This XP thingamabob seems to be SOOO much better than my cr*ppy Me install. Even the problems are more interesting!

Seriously though. It's a Dell. The Win XP disk is most lkely a restore disk, not
a full prog disk. The Windows CAB's are all on the HDD.
