Hrm I thought it'd be another 12months before terabyte hard drives were available for PC use. Still, do you really need a terabyte worth of storage at the moment? Having a desktop with that much space is just means for showing off, 150 - 200 gig should be more than enough for most users at this point in time.

With the ever expanding rhelm of digital media, one could see how 1 Ter hdd could be filled. PC's are slowly moving toward being the main component of a home entertainment system. How many DVD's does the normal person possess?

I know of a few people that have hundreds of movies at their disposal. That could fill that hdd quite a bit.

well, it might have potential applications in the Server data storage industry, one gigabyte per student for 1000 students!!

Post Thu Apr 15, 2004 4:55 am

It's not uncommon for mid range servers have multiple terabytes at their disposale now. With the advent of Storage Area Networks, your really only limited by your budget as to amount of data storage you can have available to your company. Besides it's better to have your data spread across multiple drives, than one great kahoona of a drive.
Personally if I was going to outlay for a terabyte of storage, i'd preferably get two 500 gig drives and mirror them, faster access and redundancy.

prices should start to drop within the next 6 months or before xmass.. they are aready dropping due to all the main companys at or near the same level in what there w/r heads can handle {if u want more GBs u need more disks} but this may change very ..very....soon then the tera/ bite H/D may be only for pc 1 to 2 years away !!! it already here for very large servers and external H/D but at the moment are slightly dear

death is the last great adventure.
