You had Yugos in the US? I never knew that, I thought they were designed solely to be sold to retired englishmen wearing homburgs who only drove on Sundays

did you have Wartburgs and Moskvitches as well? (bet you didn't)

My dad had a Wartburg (for 3 days before he took it back)

Yugos were introduced to the US during that brief time when Tito found a new way to straddle the Iron Curtain. The cars were the butt of so many jokes it wasn't funny.

I'm trying to remember but I think they were in the market here for about 5 years sometime in a late 70's.

They were extremely popular in the West Midlands esp in the Black Country, as were Ladas.

how do you double the value of a Lada? put petrol in it
why should you get a Lada with a heated rear window? so you can keep your hands warm when you're pushing it home..
what's the difference between a Lada and a skip? No road tax required on a skip

Why were sidewalks invented? So that Yugo owners would have a safe way to walk home.
How do you make a Yugo fly? Push it out of a plane.
How do you make a Yugo move faster? Turn off the engine.
What do you call Yugo passengers? Shock absorbers.
What's the difference between a Jehovah's Witness and a Yugo? You can slam the door on a Jehovah's Witness.

These and many more here

The cars were basicly junk. hard to get warrenty work done and parts cost more than the car. Not to knock a country, just a car. Like the edsel.

or the Allegro. or anything made by talbot.

How are Kia's rated? They've estabished a marketing niche here as the cheapest car available that actually has 4 wheels and is able to self-propel. Not much beyond that from I've been told and seen. Compared to Yugos, though, a superior product, of sorts. They come with 10 year or 100,000 mile warranties. No one I know takes that seriously, though. Certainly don't use that as a reason to buy the thing, anyway.

I don't have an opinion (long story), but Jaguars are not bad cars. And they are made by Ford as I understand it.
