You can now preorder the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

ooh! bizarre! although by the looks of things - looking at the "gold" version at the link you sent - this is only mock-up packaging....will be interesting to see how the final version turns out...

Well it does say in the article that was linked that the DVDs themselves are in cases like the others. I think it isn't their intention to actually use the box as a DVD holder on the shelf. It's just for transportation. If that is the case, it's another lousy decision. I am not flipping a box top every time I want to watch the film.

Here is an update on the DVDs from starwars.com. It mentions the features that will be on the DVDs, etc. Enjoy!

@Spector: Well, no one ever said you HAD to put them back in the box.

The fourth disc is packed with bonus material, the most notable being Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy. This two-and-a-half hour documentary traces the evolution of the saga, from a low-budget labor-of-love space saga to the movie phenomenon that defied the odds and reinvented the rules.

Thank christ for that, there is nothing worse than whipping out that bonus disk, and finding it filled to the brim with trashy 10 minute features that were barely worth the effort of putting the disk in.

I can't wait for the DVD versions to come out. I currently have all three different versions of the VHS trilogy, and was old enough to actually see Empire and Return of the Jedi in the theaters when they FIRST came out.

For me, the biggest plus with the DVDs is going to be the sound. I have Digital surround sound and I can tell you that VHS simply does not measure up.

However, I was REALLY hoping that they would be released in DTS, as opposed to Dolby 5.1. DTS kicks ass (as any audiophile knows) and I was really looking forward to watching the trilogy with the best sound ever. Sigh, I guess I will settle for 5.1.

I have my doubts about a 6-disk set being released anytime soon (Eps 1-6). Look how long it took the original trilogy to come out on DVD. Nope....George is going to milk this like he milks everything else. When Episode 3 comes out on DVD, he'll let that sell like hotcakes for a year or two. Then he'll let the anticipation build for a couple of years before releasing an Eps1-3 trilogy boxed set. Once that sells for a couple more years he MIGHT release an anniversary edition including all 6 episodes. Greedy as he is, he's a marketing genius. With his method, you end up buying every version that gets released because he makes you believe a "boxed set" is coming, but makes you wait 5-10 years for it.

Anyway, DVD for the sound. Defintely.

an even better idea would be to not make it at all, if ep1 and 2 are anything to go by.

Taw - No, I think that 3 should be good. I don't know why, but my feeling is that 3 is so important in terms of understanding the second three, that Lucas cannot afford to stuff it up, and not set up the proper backstory to Ep 4. Still he may prove me wrong (again) .

Note: Where is SS anyway? Has he gone back into lurking mode? I haven't heard from him in more than a week (possibly more).

I'm looking forward to 3, I just have this fear that there is going to be a crap load of plot holes (especially how C3P0 just happens to go through the entire OT without mentioning that Lukes father was his creator). And now that they have Chewbacca in it.....well depending on what context he is played in, there could be a lot of explaining to do.

Too true. According to the backstory (as I recall), Chewie was rescued from some slavers by Han. If so, this would be a logical scene in Ep3, and would allow for the introduction of both charatcers. Still, Lucas may throw in some other reason that they are together just to be perverse .

@mustang: this is kind of a spoiler, so take it with a grain of salt. From what I've read and heard, C-3P0 and R2 get their memory wiped at the end of Episode III. I'd have to say that would account for 3PO not mentioning who created him.

It makes sense to have their memories wiped, but only C-3P0 needs it, and it fits in with him always getting the short end of the of stick (Getting pushed off a gantry, being blown apart by stormtroopers).
