You can now preorder the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

You can now preorder the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD!!

About bloody time. It's only available as Special Editions. I even heard rumours long ago, Lucas might film some of the new actors and place them into the movies like Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) on Alderaan when it blew up. Who knows? Maybe he scratched that. But it's finally coming to DVD on 24th of September, 2004.

According to an interview I read, Lucas is only going to make available the theatrical releases, so no, you won't have any extra "tagged on". Do you reckon it would be worth buying even in posession of the VHS set? I know that Lucasfilm do ace extras...but...

Well, this statement from Amazon.com says it will be the Special Editions they did a few years ago.

Years later, George Lucas transformed his films into "special editions" by adding new scenes and special effects, which were greeted mostly by shrugs from fans. They were perfectly happy with the films they had grown up with (who cares if Greedo shot first?), and thus disappointed by Lucas's decision to make the special editions the only versions available on DVD. Still, the Star Wars trilogy was one of the last remaining DVD Holy Grails, and only the most stubborn won't welcome its release

I agree with SS, I too heard on several occasions people complaining because Lucas will only be releasing the special editions and NOT the original theatrical releases.

Shame, but I'll be buying it anyway

I got the specials on VHS. Can't see buying them again on dvd. I liked the add ons that Lucas did to the original. It helped a little. I'll wait and see if he adds anything else to it myself.

I have the original three on VHS, and I have had them for many years. I wouldn't mind adding the new ones to my DVD Collection though.

According to HardOCP, buy.com is selling the SW DVDs for $42.

I would happily replace almost any VHS movie with a DVD if it came out and I still like the film. The quality of VHS is so poor in comparison. I much prefer DVD. I still have a few tapes, including the SW trilogy and in comparison to Star Wars DVDs of Ep 1 & 2 I have I can barely stomach seeing the graininess and poor sound of them.

its definately the special editions. As far as lucas is concerned, the original versions no longer exist. Its the goddamn ministry of trurth over at skywalker ranch.

Im not sure if i want to get these dvds though, i mean id want to own them, but my star wars collection has epsodes 1 and 2 in identical boxes (same style) so i dont want my episodes 4,5 and 6 to **** that up.gah, maybe they'll release the prequel trilogy in a box set that matches the OT, i dont know.

anyone else a sucker for having to have a nice looking set of any series? ive taken christmas presents back because the dvd they got me, or the book, or comic, doesnt match the set im currently cultivating.

I've been gagging for this to come out, have been for years. After living off DVD for the past 4 years, VHS looks like a dodgy webcast of a low budget porno.
Anyway who really cares that only the SE version is coming out, it is superior to the orginal. Granted the Greedo shooting first bit is highly annoying but overall it's a crisper print. I just wish they'd fixed that damn rancor scene, the matte lines on that are cringe worthy.

sorry Lucas isn't get anymore money out of me, he's creamed me enough since 1977, and now there's a whole new generation of gullible spawn to suck parasitically off their parents so that Lucas' can make more cr*p films (Empire and jedi are the only really good ones, Clones ok in 2nd half)

Speaking of their fixing of the movies to Special Edition, you can still "see" through the cockpits in the speeders on Hoth. At the time they made it somewhat transparent to make sure they didn't have a thick black line between their stage background and the white snow. They said they actually fixed that, but not all of it. There are still pieces of scene where the ground is slying by beneathe the dash board.

The other thing is, they actually created a mistake that originally wasn't there. When Han, Leia and Chewie are being led to Vader (before they knew he was there), they pass by a wall with an elevator going up. That same wall is behind Harrison Ford when he shooting at Vader and it is back to the wall it was before.

Have you had a hard night out, SS? Your last post gets less and less coherent as it goes on .

For me, these are going to be the DVD's to own. It's what I've been waiting for. I've got the Indiana Jones movies on DVD. I also have surround sound, so they kick even more ass. I can't wait to hear how the Classic Trilogy sounds on my system. I'm a Star Wars nut. I've got books, the movies, games, comics, toys, even posters. From what I've been hearing on the 'net now, Lucas wanted to touch up some of the special effects that you saw in the orginal "Special Editions." Apparently the original bar scene with Han and Greedo where Han shoots first is going to be back in. I also heard that there's going to be a kind of "sneak peak" at Episode III.

Mee - So... you like Star Wars? Right?

I think that "the DVD to own" would have to be the "Return of the King" Special Extended Edition. I can't wait for that!

I was about 9 or 10 when the Special Editions came out, and noticing the changes that they made was pretty fun for me. In particular, seeing the Outrider in the corner of the screen at the big Mos Eisley view.

This is the DVD everybody's been waiting for, and my family is no exception. We're probably gonna get it the day of its release (not unlike the Fellowship of the Ring extended edition).
