Fashion

Fashion. Personally, I think that it is something that caters to the shallowest parts of a person, and has very little impact in real life. That is not to say that dressing neatly and appropriately is unimportant, but rather that rushing out to purchase new clothes just because they are "fashionable" is shallow, and is the output of corporate propaganda. It all seems to be a case of vanity and the people who model the latest fashions are not even representiive of the average person. Furthermore, the latest fashions are out of the reach of the average consumer, which means that fashion is something that, as a rule, caters to the wealthy. Basically, I think that the whole concept is a complete waste of time and money, and can only be jokingly referred to as an "industry". That being said, how do you feel about fashion? Is it a complete waste of time, or am I wrong?

Note: The purpose of this topic is not to juxtapose the attributes of various models. Don't make me thwack you...

I'd say it depends on the person wearing the clothes. Some who dress up all the time could be shallow, true. However, those who are always dressed in comfort clothes are often unimpressive and don't put out much effort for others. Every once in a while it makes a person feel good to exceed beyond everyday normal. And I enjoy people (especially women ) who do that.

Let's not forget that dressing up is also a way to treat others with respect. It really comes down to the person. Do they dress to show respect to the others that surround them or to monopolize the attention of others. Again, a little attention isn't bad either and I don't mind providing a little attention to those who deserve it.

True SS, but it is more the catwalk type of fashion that I am referring to. I dislike the idea of a bunch of designers sitting around dictating what people should wear. It doesn't seem right to me.

Post Mon Mar 15, 2004 3:39 pm

The catwalk fashion that is regular cloths i can stand, i dont see why some people have to have it though. Im your typical jeans and t-shirt type of guy, with the occasional pair of silk basketball shorts. When i need to get dressed up, i get dressed up. I personally would take something comfortable over something "fashionable" any day of the week.

While were on the topic,
The ones i really dont understand are the "fashions" on the catwalk where the cloths have no value other then to look odd. No one would ever wear some of those dresses outside of that fashon show. Im talking about the dresses that will have a 2 foot birdfeather hat, or some sort of dress where you can do nothing but stand in it. I never have seen the point in those.

I believe in dressing conservative/modest, not formal. I dress in what I like even if it is out of fashion. Cheaper that way too.

Unless you want to sleep with complete mingers you have to be at least moderately fashionable. However if it wasn't for the opposite sex i'd wear nothing but naffed jeans and grimey t-shirts.

Post Mon Mar 15, 2004 6:54 pm

Depends on which catwalk doesn't it? Some of those outfits I see as sheer fantasy, emphasis on sheer. I cannot imagine a beautiful woman wearing something as flimsy if not as miniscule as what these models wear out on the real life streets much as I may wish to fantasize about it!

Keep that up, the poor girls gonah catch a cold. Conservative and Modest in this since, means nice and clean, just not expensive or the latest trend. I prefer quality of items, that hold up. I have a pair of jeans that are over 16 years old and still in good shape, just not the 501 versions.

You'll look at a cat walk and HAlf of it is so elabote you don't understand the point, some is just in my view ugly and some is so simple My mother could have made it, like a big gray T shirt or something. In truth though I don't give a darn, I'd have to be really rich to even consider buying any of it for any one.

I had a super Ego, but it was pestering me so I killed it.

When I shot it the bullet grazed my soul, and that bled to death too

i usually don't pay much attention it.

some people can look decent in a pair of old jeans and a faded t-shirt, while others can't really pull that off and need to go and buy more expensive clothes. its all about individual taste, and personal preference

who am i to argue with what someone else wants to wear??

wouldnt say im a fashion victim unless im out on the pull
though some fashion trends can cause real problems and even safety can be compromised all in the name of fashion eg those trousers that were "in" in the uk last year with the bits hanging off them that got caught in doors lifts etc
and in cases highlighted in the uk can cause crime in youngsters ie schoolkids have been known to steal trendy jackets and footwear at knifepoint whilst at school
there are definitely some socio/economic issues being caused be the current obsession with having the right gear

Pity, there will hardly be any female to join the discussion and add a somewhat different () approach to this topic. We, guys, are more practical and generally don't give a damn for what is "the latest cry of fashion" and what is not. Girls, however, are different, an it is mostly at them that all this vogue is directed.
My opinion is typically male and corresponds to the ones that have been expressed before by other guys, so I shall not elaborate too much on this topic.
P.S. Jeez, sometimes I'm so eloquent when "under influence"

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain

Fact is, you can't buy anything else but fashion clothing unless you wanna walk around in boring outfits.
Well, that my thought anyway.

Buying fashion clothing doesn't mean you're shallow. In fact, i think it's not interrelated all that much. A shalow person can also buy non fashionable clothing. It all depends on the person and not what he's wearing.

In a way, saying that people who buy only fashionable clothing are shallow, is a shallow comment in its self.

About the catwalks: Those expensive catwalk clothes (Paris, London, NY, you know...) are totaly only for that show and maybe one night at the Ascars or something like that. Folks like us don't walk around in that, probably

You were gone?
