I seriously doubt any recent immigrants from Mexico would believe anyone would call them Yanks. Zeratural comes to mind. (did I say that out loud?)

Yanks?
This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

It is simplier for non-Americans to refer to all Americans as just Yanks. It is amazing to think of the melting pot here and how many Americans actually don't fit any category of anyone's defination of a Yank though. Too big of a country for that.

So it's like Yanks and Bucks then? What if we just conglomerate the two and call you Yuncks?
Seriously though, United Statesians are far to touchy about what they are called. You guys need to lighten up a little and cut down on the political correctness that's so friggin rife over there. Just think of our good mates in New Zealand, they cop a relentless amount of sheep molesting jokes from us Aussie's but they just take it in good humour and dish it right back at us.

Americans who live in the New England and Northeast states of the US are commonly called Yanks as that was given to them before the American Revolution. These states include: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and especially Massachusetts and New York.
-----------------
Silly; everyone knows New England consists of the great states of Argentina, Botswana and Dutch New Guinea.

I didn't realise (some) Americans took such offense to it. I thought it had just evolved into a common generic term for all Americans...

And then, of course, there is the problem of the New York Yankees baseball team. They are as much beloved by many as they are deeply hated by even as many. Baseball, which can generate quite a bit of heated debate in any bar in America, divides much of America along this one line. But there are others, for example, there are die-hard traditionalists who prefer the National League over the American League.
I live in Ohio, but my family is pure Alabamian. Referring back to the Civil War point, I don't like being called a Yank. The reason I call people British or Australians instead of anything else is that it seems that these days everyone is out to get the US and that I don't want to spark an international dispute.
This can be summed up by one line fromt he movie Independence Day:
"Police are warning Los Angelinos to not fire their guns at the visitor spacecraft. You man inadvertently start and Interstellar war."
If any of you have gone to Click here Then you know that the part such as "United States" or "People's Republic" for example is just a prefix. Therefore, the United States of America is just the long name for a country that could be referred to as it's root name - America. Just like we don't call China the "People's Republic of China" or Mexico the "United States of Mexico". Yes that is Mexico's long name.

I really don't see what the fuss is all about. Brits and Poms are used to identify anyone from the British Isles, be they English, Scottish, Welsh, N.Irish, or long-term immigrants. We even get called Europeans as a catch all term by some Americans. C'mon, no-one means any offence by the term yanks. Chill out.
Okay, its not that big of a deal it's just that everywhere I turn I see "Any yanks see this?" or "You yanks should see this" when in fact the term yanks jurts my heritage. Sherman killed some of my ancestors in Alabama against Lincoln's orders, I don't have sympathy for "yanks".
