This "worm" or what ever it is is getting people i know too. I got 250 emails from 3 people that i know and a combonination of 5 other people. Do you guys think this has anything to do with that worm thats supposed to hit Febuary the first? I had seen that a big worm is going to start on the first and all of the emails it creats are aimed at some company helping Linux. Feel free to correct me if im wrong, thats second hand information i have.
youre on the right track, matt. its Novarg/myDoom and its a mass-mailing worm that is supposed to initiate a DoS attack on www.sco.com starting Feb 1st. Sco are a Unix company that are currently trying to charge Linux users a licence fee as part of a desperate attempt to saty in business, Esq had a thread about it recently. i don't think it's too hard to figure out what's behind this worm..
Hello there, I think you will find that its not their email boxes that have the worm at all. I have scanned, and continue to scan, my email and rest of my comp every single day (yes, the scan is actually online, and is updated daily). I have NOT got anything.
However, i am receiving mailer daemon replies about failed emails sent by me. The virus is "masking" addresses to put it mildly. They are getting sent from ELSEWHERE but masked as sent by me. That is why they are getting returned to me.
So - everyone, GET SCANNING!!! lol. Do your bit!
And with some helpful peices below - you have NO EXCUSE!!!

http://www.free-av.com and it is called AntiVir
Just cause your not receiving the mails, DOESN'T mean that your not infected. I scan every morning whilst in the shower - so get to it people!

A spiffy program is being offered by E Trust call EZ armor. Go to the Microsoft update page and click on there three steps to protect your computer and on the anti-virus page you will find a linl to etrust. What is cool is the link allows you to try the software free with full support for a full year. The software itself is a suite of products that includes a anti-virus, email protecter, firewall and cast iron popup blocker all in one easy to use and customize package. I have been using it for about a month now and it is sweet. Besides free for a year is hard to beat

SCO, the intended target of MYDOOM announced today that it was indeed inundated by e-mails and its server was overwhelmed and forced down. They advise that they will have everything back to sorts tomorrow.
They've posted a $250,000 bounty for the identity of the author. Microsoft also has issued a $250,000 bounty.
Don't know whether SCO really has a copyright case against the Linux community but I hope they don't.
