Esq, help thanks?... i know you''r there!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I'd recommend the radeon series in the blink of an eye...I use the 9000Pro, and although superceded now its still an awesome card.

Looks a good price too

yeh grom i also have a radeon 9000 pro, but its not workin very well

Post Fri Jan 30, 2004 2:45 pm

No!!! Do NOT go for this card! It is another one of those cut-down models. Firstly, it runs at only 270MHz, the same speed as my 9700 Pro (not OC'd), the memory interface is only 128-bit not 256, and it has only four pixel pipelines; it should have eight. I seriously doubt that performance would be what you would like. Of course, I'd recommend checking out some reviews on it just to make sure. You have to watch out for these trimmed-down models, they are tricky to spot if you don't know what you are looking for.

well then what DO you consider "the best"?

As usual old son, it depends upon what you need it for, and your budget. The 9800 Pro XT is the fastest, but is only slightly faster than the 9800 Pro, yet costs much more. The best all-round card is probably a 9600 Pro, as is can be overclocked to insane levels with stock cooling, and is cheap. The 9500 Pro is very good as a different BIOS can make it into a 9700. Still, a 9700 Pro is still a good card. My own 9700 can be overclocked from 270/275 (Core/Memory) to 340/310 with stock cooling. Thus, it is great for playing things like MAx Payne 2, Halo, UT2003, etc on full detail with excellent results. So it all depends upon upon your needs. By the way, don't take that tone with me!

i dont really have a list of wat i want
i just need a new sound card, graphics card, and an extra harddrive (for some reason mine just keep failing and i end up having to wipe the memory and get it fixed)
and it all has to work on windows 98

(and how come i cant save things as jpegs? does win 98 support them?)

Most hardware should work on 98, as drivers will be supplied with the cards, and you wouldn't need a driver for a new HDD. As for JPEGs, I cannot recall. Sometimes when using paint, you have to save them as bitmaps first, and then convert them to JPEG by opening them through paint again. If that doesn't work then you can download a BMP to JPEG converter ro whatever. There are heaps of free converters around.

The 9500 and 9700 are hard to find these days, as they have been supplanted by the 9600 and 9800 respectively. Consider trying Ebay, or something like that. The 9600 XT is a very good balance between cost and performance. Still, I'm not a fan of the 128-bit memory interface or only four pixel pipelines, but they are only on expensive cards these days. Here are some links for you, as requested;

If you want more information/reviews (and I think you should get some) search on Google. I can't do everything for you! Sorry, it's an old IT rule.
