i dont want a used one, my dad wont buy a used one.
there was a P4 2.66, 60Gb HDD on ebay for £200 that went for £270
and my dad wouldnt buy it because he said "how do i know it still works"
so ebaying is out of the question

aod, you do not need a 2.2 gig monster for typing on, get a word processor. im sure you could build one if you put your mind to it

Arcon -

Thats bad parenting Esq.
Of course it is, that's why there was a smilie in my post!

Aod - If the situation is as dire as you describe, I am sure that your parents will eventually come around to your way of thinking. Unfortunately, these things take time. Be patient, that's the only advice I can give you.

i just think its downright bl**dy lazy myself, if you really wanted such things you'd stop whining and needling your parents and find a way to earn the money or at least meet them halfway on this and show some bl**dy effort. Why dont you sell something and use the money as a part-payment? You should be roundabout Bar-Mitzvah age soon, then you'll be considered an adult and you won't be able to nag for the money then. When my son gets on my wick about stuff like this he gets a firm no and if he continues i tell him he'll get a clip round the ear if he doesn't shutup. My dad used to take a belt to me if I wound him up about stuff like this, but things were different back then when there wasn't no tarmac on the cobbled streets. Yound people today they dont know theyre born, National Service thats what they need.

Taw, you know little about being a jew, i have already had my
barmitzvah, i am not asking my parens for money, but truth
be told i never actually have!, i need a laptop for school,
i just happen to want the cheapest one! the cheapest one just
happens to have a 2.2Ghz processor! You all dont get it!

Post Wed Jan 14, 2004 8:51 am

not as cheap as a 10th hand P75 with 8mb RAM. £100 region, get them from any used laptop reseller on the 'net, loads down your way. You just want something new, which imho is unreasonable.

Post Wed Jan 14, 2004 9:15 am

I agree with Taw I'm afraid Aod....You can pick up a decent P2 or P3 laptop for bugger all nowadays....they would run anything you need as far as your work is concerned. If you're demanding new then thats a totally unreasonable thing to ask. If you're hoping for a laptop that you can play games on as well as work a second hand should be fine....and if thats the case then its you who's in the wrong here, not them. Sorry dude, thats the way it is.

You need to learn to compromise a little.

no one ever NEEDS a laptop for school. The education systems are set up so if you need to USE a computer you can, but i'm pretty sure you could pass whatever WITHOUT owning a laptop yourself. And i should think a 3rd hand machine would be just as useful.

failing that, you could always rent a laptop.

Generation X gets rsi and carpal tunnel syndroms from using computers too much. GenerationY gets it from picking up a pencil too much Kids are so spoiled nowadays...

what generation must i be then? I use puters all dam day solid and hardly stop at nightime, but all I have is atrocious eyesight. Nver had anything like rsi although i do get a bad back from bending down too much and scrawling around running network cables and stuff.

(cmon ive just given you a total gift for insulting me )

tawakalna likes it up the s**ter!

sorry Locutus (you fruit).

aaanwyay. Can we stop this moaning because "daddy wont buy me a sports car", or "i need ANOTHER new dress because this a girl at school has the same one and i cant take it back because i already wore it" or "i need new shoes" or whatever the whining is about. I think when I asked for a computer at 13 the reply was anti-semetic and came with a shoe...at high speed.
