@vektrix very likely we have met...if you arrived that september, I would have been the geezer welcoming you to lonsdale....and throwing flyers at you. I worked for the SU as their chief techie for a while, but my best mate stayed on as Bar Manager of Lonsdale Bar until last summer (Jay? Long black haired geezer?)...so I did him a favour that summer and handed out a few flyers to you lot....it was a good excuse to meet the fresher girls anyway

In fact, there are several photos of me up on the walls of that bar....but thats all I'm saying

EDIT: in fact, you know when you go into lonsdale bar, turn left and head towards the bar area....you pass through a door frame with the gents on your right....?....I'm the reason that there's no door there....it was there in 95, but we got p*ssed up one night after hours and two of us fell into it ripping it off its hinges. The SU couldn't be bothered replacing it so they just painted over the remaining hinge

Gee, who would have guessed that somebody apart from me would create this thread? . As for me, I attended Melbourne University in Victoria, Australia. I completed an Arts Degree (which I think is referred to as "Communications" (?) in the USA), which I chose for personal interest. I was able to study the good stuff; Piracy, Witches and Witchhunting, Arthurian "History", Celtic History, Medieval European History, Mythology, Philosophy, and heaps of other fantastic (but in practical terms, useless) stuff. I really enjoyed it, but because it is absolutely useless in terms of acquiring jobs, I consider it a bit of a joke. That's why I bring it up occasionally; it is an outgrowth of a family joke that is still going strong.

I also completed a Diploma at Swiburne University of Technology which I finished in 2003. It was in Network Engineering. Mmm, Arts and Networking; they complement each other well don't you think? I'm sure that Philosophy and Medieval History will come in handy when diagnosing servers!

Rock on fellow graduates!

Hey Grom - say it isn't so - we probably have met, how scary?????????????????
Hmmm.. So you destroyed that door? I always wandered why there wasn't one, mind you image if there was, wouldn't that be fun? Imaagine how many spilled pints that would cause.

As for Jay - I don't recall a lad called Jay, the bloke I remember had short mousey hair and played Guitar in "Stonehenge" most nights whilst getting pissed. This was annoying as I stayed in Kilburn Lodge - luckily a few mates stayed in Parwich

I'm surprised I didn't leave my mark on Lonsdale bar - like an indentation of a pool cue on a wall.

@Vektrix - bizarre isn't it...its pretty likely we've met, or at least seen each other. Oh what a small world it can be sometimes. I've just realised that Jay didn't take over the bar until about 99...before that he ran the car park outside of the Union clubs (union 1/union 2) and ran the bar in union 2. Quite a character our Jay...

As for Kilburn, oh yes I remember Kilburn. I spent most of 1993 on the second floor with a girl called Laura

Incidentally, did you know that they've destroyed the union clubs and are turning them into "luxury" flats??!

I only remember going into Union 1 and 2 (original names eh?) once each- I spent most of my time in Lonsdale Bar and then either Eclipse or Pink Flamingo b4 waking up the next morning in my own bed and wandering exactly how I managed to get there....

BTW: Sorry for my abscence and bringing this thread back up - been two weeks since I've had access to the net.

@vektrix - the pink flamingo!!! WHAT A **** HOLE!! Aren't you supposed to end up in someone else's bed without knowing how you got there?!!

Simon Fraser University. Burnaby, BC, Canada

The most depressing combination of architecture, surroundings, and weather I've ever seen. Coldest place in this area too. Knees don't work in here.

Costs ~1350 CDN per semester for 3 courses. ~124 CDN per credit. Standard course load for most people is 3-4, requiring 120 credits to graduate. A LOT of money for peopel who can't get jobs (me).

No campus life whatsoever, unless you play sports, drink beer, or snowboard. Or mountain bike (we're on top of a giant hill, but downhill biking isn't for me yet).

Currently applying for a major in Communications. Haven't fulfilled all the reqs yet. It's a B.ASc. I think, might be a B.A. A good program, BTW.

I have just started at Southampton uni and am readin Marine Biology and Oceanography, which to be honest is the easiest time I've ever had in my life! I'm sure it'll get a bit harder, but still...

As for stories, well, it's more of a fact, I have the Uni record (or certainly my halls, I think it's Uni record) for a full yard of ale (the guiness book of records says the world record is 8.1 secs or something, but that's two pints in a yard glass... it's not the same as a full glass by a long way!) at 15.6secs.

Pink Flamingo was terrible, similar to a place a place in Preston actually - Ineeded to be out of my skull b4 even entertaining the merest possibility of entering. As for ending in someone elses bed, I think I did it twice and still woke up alone in my room - wandering which way was up and which way was wrong. Y'know the sorta thing? It was a dive, but when you're drunk WHO CARES?

Pink Flamingo(es) was a movie made by John Waters, featuring Divine in the leading role. Anyone besides me ever see it? It was a cult movie. It's subtitle was "An Exercise in Bad Taste" and it most certainly was.

Most favorite line out of that movie for me was when Divine expounds: "There are only two kinds of people in this world, honey. My kind and a$$&ole$."

Relevance? Oh. I first saw that movie in college. I went to Hamilton College in upstate New York.

I was thinking of pointing out your poor choice of Uni but felt I shouldn't stoop to that level of childishness

I'll be in portsmouth this coming saturday. You're hosting an Ultimate tournament (frisbee) and I'll be playing, you should come along and watch. Find the group of people playing for skunks and ask for sicko - and I'll tell you why I got the name!
