Comics!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

To quote Mr Cranky from mrcranky.com: "At least Superman is part of the working class. Batman is just a rich lonely patrician with rubber fetish" it had me rolling on the floor.

I was always a fan of both Marvel and DC....but I'm afraid that my vote too goes to Asterix and Obelix....they're just plain hilarious. I own 15 volumes of them and I find them even funnier nowadays - its like watching a kids film thats loaded with adult inuendo. Superb stuff.

I'm also a big Bloom County fan if any of you have heard of it?

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 5:48 am

grom, you must have read 200AD too?

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 6:00 am

I did occasionally - I've gotta be honest though, as much as I would have liked to have been really knowledgable about comics when I was a kid, I had far too many other things on my mind (girls, computers, girls, computers, girls etc )

2000AD was definitely cool though. I was tempted a couple of years ago to pick up one of the hard back collection books - you know the kind? loads of comics compiled into one hard book, a bit like graphic novels. But I think I'm correct in saying that on that particular day I chose to spend the equivalent cash in the pub next to the Waterstones that I was in. Maybe one day

anybody else a fan of Bloom County? (opus the penguin, bill the cat etc?) No? That'll be just me then...

the only comic i really went for was warlord

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 7:09 am

i like Secret Files of the Luftwaffe in Warlord, and Sniper Kelly. What was the name of the strip with the German tank commander, btw?

Did you get Commando books as well, Geoff? 4 shillings every Thursday, couldn't wait.

Bloom County is good. Opus doesn't always make me laugh although his recent trials at attempting to achieve matrimonial bliss in his ancestral homeland is quite funny.

I'm really sorry I never answered the original question! fav. comic character ever? Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future, followed by Rogue Trooper/Judge Dredd, followed by The Falklands Penguin out of "If"

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 7:37 am

@indy - there's new bloom county?!?!!! i thought it stopped 10 years ago!! where?! where?! where?!!!

@taw - have you seen the new CG dan dare on sky one? I'm pretty impressed with it, reminds me of my "eagle" days

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 7:51 am

do I ever! it's still not got that true "Eagle" magic, but it'll do. i feel sorry for kids today growing up without the wondrousness of Eagle, but there's plenty of reference stuff on th 'net to make up for what they missed, here's some While i normally side with the baddies, i really hated the Mekon. Did you ever clock the uncanny resemblence between the Mekon and Margaret Thatcher?

the Mekon

Thatch

it's the arched eyes, the beady stare, the scrawney neck, the strectched skin, and the presence of pure evil that gives it away. From 1979-1991 we were under the domination of the Maggon. And the only thing that stood in her way was Dan Dire, Pillock of the Future (aka Kinocchio) My how we laughed as Dan and his sidekick Pigby constantly failed to score any points off her whatsoever..

LOL. I never noticed that before

The Eagle was just superb - my dad read it when he was a kid and bought me the first issue when it was released in the early 80s/late 70s - complete with mekon frisbee. I loved it, I'll never understand why it went out of print.

@Grom.

Sorry. Don't think it's new ... Did I mislead? It's just that I am not that avid a reader so lots of the installments are new to me. Local papers here have been re-running Far Side and Bloom County for a few years now.

Post Tue Jan 06, 2004 8:36 am

Bloom County Rocks I was very sad when Breathed call it quits and brought out the clunker sequel IMHO Outlands. Both marvel and DC have fond memories for me all the spiderman comics (until the whole clone thing anyway) Savage Sword of Conan x-men and fantastic 4 for marvel. Batman period for DC but was a GREAT comic. as for comic strips? Foxtrot Calvin and Hobbes The far side (unfortunately Foxtrot is the only one still going)
