Comics!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Comics!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad someone mentioned this in the name thread.........

I'm fairly certain at least a great majority of you read or have read comics at one point in your life....so what was your favorite character?

lets not bicker about DC vs. Marvel vs. Image vs. archie or whatever

Just who's your favorite? and why?

Thanos the Mad Titan....hands down he hasn't met a foe he couldn't beat. Plus, he's totally a bad guy.

You gotta hand it to a guy that spliced his own DNA with that of Galactus just to clone a hybrid capable of defeating the original Galactus "just in case he needed one"

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

Manga-person here. But I did grow up with Asterix & Obelix, Agent 212 (French comic), Lucky Luke, Steven Sterk (Dutch, I think), etc before the Japanese invaded and removed them from circulation. I did have a pretty sweet childhood . Dilbert and Far Side are also hilarious!

Oh yeah I'm a big manga fan too.....I recently sprung for the gigantic 6 volume set of Akira.....man that story blows the movie out of the water....I'm also a HUGE DBZ fan...though most folks think it's a kiddie show .....because they have only seen the Americanised version......I swear America could **ck up a wet dream......

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

I never really got into comics the only comic i ever read was The Beano...

DBZ Anime blows. Stick to the DB manga. No cheesy lines and silly filler purposeless scenes.

I grew up on a lot of Marvel and DC in me teens but later on got well into manga and the Dark Horse publications. But before any of those I read Pippin (I was 5) then Dandy & Beano, Hotspur, Tiger, Warlord, and above them all, the greatest comic ever written in the history of comics, Eagle. There's never been anything like Eagle before or since. Oh yeh then i started reading 2000AD after Eagle and TV21 folded.

I also posess several rare issues of Oink!

Now i just read Private Eye and Viz.

Beano, and the Dandy...

I absolutely LOVE DC. I think it kicks **** into Marvel any day of the week. Theyre just better characters all round. My absolute fave comic hero is Batman, without a doubt. I love Superman and currently am REALLY into Sandman, spending FAR too much on the TPB series at the moment

As for compulsive reading, i got an entire couple of shelves dedicated to Star Wars comics from Dark Horse.

I actually have a story for a comic but thats a secret for now, until i can learn to draw that is.

Well I tried to leave it out......but Arcon ....you asked for it

DC?.....I mean really? DC? *shakes his head in disgust*

I mean come on....Superman? Yeah lets just have a guy thats ....get this...invincable. No one can hurt him. Bulletproof. Eyebeams. Freeze breath. Flies. Superfast. Oh yeah and we'll make him have an intolerable soft spot for the fleshy cretins called humans that he somehow can't do without.

What a joke! Oh wait he does have that one weakness......Kryptonite! A magical rock that barely even EXISTS anymore. gee I wonder how this weeks installment of superman will turn out....oh look he flew in stood there all superior looking while the badguys tried to use weapons that they should have known wouldn't do anything and then he beat them all up with one punch and put them in jail....yay.

creativity at it's worst. He has a super power for every situation.....boring.
no offense

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

Green Lantern. Submariner. Daredevil. Batman. And... truth be told, Asterix and Obelisk. The last two really cracked me up.

Yeah, I also read Superman, X-Men, Fab. 4, Capt. America, Spiderman, Thor, Hawkman, and all those but the first four were my favorites and, for laughs, A & O.

Does Dilbert count as a comic? Anyway, today, its stuff like Dilbert, The Far Side, and I guess I get to throw in Gahan Wilson's work although I haven't seen any lately... did he pass away?

@Lance: Listen, Superman is the king! Kryptonite is rare because its from a planet that doesnt exist. It negates the power the boy has, so? It dates back to the story of Achilies from Greek mythology. Everyone has a weakness, but superman only has a set number of powers. He can fly, move fast, he's inpenetrable etc. but theres some things he cant do. Take the X-Men, they all pretty much have him beat on all his powers. He cant control anything with his mind, control weather, shape-shift, control metal objects etc. He has SOME tricks yeah, theyre the BEST tricks but not ALL the tricks.

And dont get on at me about formulaeic plots. Superman plots have been brilliant and fresh, they have new writers all the time and now with the Justice League theres even more cool things happening. You gotta stop being so predudiced just cause he wears his pants on the outside.

comparing X-men to Superman is exactly my point.
there are what 30 different folks that have been xmen?
and you are saying that the ten or so of them that were x-men at any given time are almost directly equivelant in power to this ONE guy.
you are making my point not breaking it.

as far as story lines go I will agree I overstepped the bounds on that one having tried to write original plot lines myself I can understand how sometimes you just gotta go with what works. you are right though a lot of new Superman is pretty good. however (bet ya saw this coming) DC is just now learning that character depth is more important than beating the bad guy, something marvel had figured out since Spiderman and hulk.

as far as prejudice against underwear on the outside guys......I did sight thanos as my fav.....who is a big purple guy who speaks eloquently and wears a golden codpeice. I would say that's a tad farther towards the gay costume than superman.

all in all ......meh it's all in good fun

ps. I love green lantern and batman too I was just offended at the Marvel sucks statement.

Good?....Bad?......I'm the guy with the gun.

It's all about the Batman!

And just FYI, Superman was created by Toronto Star artist Joe Shuster in 1938.

i dont think Marvel sucks, i just think DC is better. Which it blatently is. The characters are just by and large, alot darker, i think. Especially batman. that guy is just brilliant.

I wasnt saying that the X-Men could beat Superman, i'm saying that superman doesnt have all the tricks for all situations. when i say the xmen "beat" superman, i mean in respects of having some superior powers.
Superman couldnt really stop a tornado or something, thats just crap movies, nor could he lift a lake of ice, it would break under its own weight. Its just interesting how superman gets around problems with just being stronger and faster sometimes. To be honest, i really like Spiderman. I think he's my fave Marvel guy. I can relate to that i suppose. Marvel is more about taking an emotion or a situation and making that guy out of it. Marvel's guys seem to always be mutants or be mutated, be it by birth or accident (Sure there are guys like the punnisher but he's a poor mans batman) that gain only a single atribute or a set of attributes all related. Its very "Buffy" in a way.
