Should "The Simpsons" be axed?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Well, we have a few dissenters, but not enough to disregard the common consensus; The Simpsons should be axed. It will be a sad day if and when it happens, but an understandable one. Maybe the next season will be better. I guess we will have to wait and see. I hope so *crosses fingers*

When it does get axed, it won't be "axing" , but rather mercy-killing, an euthanasia.

ahh, but the simpsons is the most successful cartoon show EVER. And with Fox's liberal axing of everything that isnt as instantly as successful as the simpsons (futurama, family guy) they have nothing to replace the show with. If The Simpsons WAS axed, then there would be a greater chance that the previously mentioned shows might even make a comeback. I mean i would literally cry if the show got axed, but i would sing from the rooftops if/when family guy came/comes back.

Fox are scared at the moment, if they cut the simpsons, the animation pool will stop being so stagnant and new concepts will come out that just couldnt compete before with the show, but on the downside, they would have lost one of the greatest viewing figure shows theyve ever run for over a decade.

Fox need to take a risk, and then sell all the episodes to BBC so i can see the episodes that the Americans consider as 'old'

family guy rocks !!!!

also i think if they axed simpsons they should replace it with something like
aeon flux(mtv weird cartoon)
the head(also mtv)
futurama was the simpsons in the future basically . bender looked like homer and basically was a slob....
dextors lab is a good one
jhonny bravo

all these cartoons ive learnt to love because there the only good thing on at 4am in the morning

I discovered Blue Sub 6 at around 4am in the morning on CNX, and Escaflowne on Fox Kids+ also at some unearthly hour.

Should "The Simpsons" be axed?

should the sun rise in the morning?
should diamonds be shipped to New Tokyo?

Post Sat Jan 03, 2004 4:18 pm

FF - Damn straight. Good to hear from one of the Mods by the way.

Arcon - I hadn't considered that. I guess Fox will have to create a new show. It will probably be either a rip-off of something successful, or something really generic. I guess we'll have to wait and see. "The Simpsons Spin-off Showcase", anyone?

KS - I don't know about the diamonds, but should I assume that you want a "yes" for all of the above questions? If so, "yes!".

For Fox, at least, the Simpsons were for the longest time, the only successful show they had. It pretty much held them above water until ol' Rupert shelled out all those billions to win the broadcast rights to the NFC football games. OK, there were a few other shows that sort of kept the network above water but, for the longest time, it was Simpsons until football came along.

They've probably got Groening locked up in a non-compete agreement so that he wouldn't be able to break-out with a new idea for a show anyway.

thing is, the X-Files suffered the same fate. Fox didnt want to axe it because it was one of their biggest shows of the 90s, Chris Carter tried to make something new in the form of Millenium, but competing with XFiles it fell on its ass. So, like Millenium, Futurama suffered. Now Fox is without both shows because it didnt know when to pull the plug. Lets face it, X-Files went bollocks after Mulder and Scully were written out as the main stars.

@Arcon,

Well, here we are in 2004 and all I can say is: I agree.

I remember when Simpsons started as a between sketch cartoon in the Tracy Ullman show. It was more popular than the show and took off on its own, with many of the cast members of Tracy's show with voice roles. In the beginning the focus of the show was on Bart, but later moved to Homer when the creator had kids of his own. Smart move in my estimation. But as all things, they run their course and this show is by far had a good run, but now its just biding time until the death march to the grave.
