Vegemite

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Damn me if I get what you're talking about... Ahh, okay, I'm damned anyway, so nevermind (I'm drunk again). Anyway, what's so special about it? The only "alien" stuff I accept is chilli (though they never add enough pepper)

The problem with most people from OS is they spread it on like butter. It's pretty powerful stuff in the taste department so you have to spread it on real thin otherwise it's overpowering and fairly repulsive.

Over christmass I saw some who lived down under for a few years, he said Vegemite was a Byproduct of Beer distiling, they scrape the foam off the top as it distills and they dry it into a power that becomes vegimite, it sounds totaly bogus, but I looked it up and found a few sites that also said this. who knows?

If life is unfair how come I haven't won yet?

Mustang's right. Only a slight scraping of the product in question is required. I don't have it very often, but I was under the impression that it was available in the US because Vegemite was taken over by an American company.

They should make a drink out of it... .

OK. What is going on here

I went to the cheese shop and looked at both jars. They're basically the same thing! Marmite and Vegemite are the same things, they're both made from brewer's yeast. The shop owner thought I was nuts when I asked him why he stocked both when they were the same thing.... at least on the labelling.

Finally, he and I worked out that Marmite is English and Vegemite is Australian. Does that mean that a different kind of brewer's yeast is involved? I know that English beers use a different yeast and brewing process than is used to make lagers and pilseners. Is that the difference

I told you they were the same thing. the major diff is that because Vegemite's australian it has a special top to stop the contents falling out when they're upside down.

ever tried *Bovril? or even heard of it? what about Ovaltine or Horlicks? now I happen to know that all these wonderful things are on sale in NYC, i just can't remember the name of the shop(s)

I used to love ovaltine, it had a slight reprise in Australia in the 80's but soon died off again.

Yup, you can find ovaltine, vegemite, and marmite at a shop in NYC called Kalustyans or some thing they'er on the web at www.Kalustyans.com a great food place. has many exotic foods.

I tried it a few times. I have a friend whose mom is from Oz. My friend said I was crazy.... understatement of the year.

Ovaltine is all over Asia! Even got white Ovaltine now. I used to drink Ovaltine as a kid. I tried it again and wondered why I'd ever liked the stuff.

You can get Bovril in Asia too. Horlicks ... well, I'll be good and pass up the obvious response.
