Monty Python''s Flying Circus

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Monty Python''s Flying Circus

Here is the next in my series of obligatory threads. Does anybody around here watch Monty Python? I find their comedy rather amusing, however some of it is a little crass for my taste. What do you think? What's the best sketch? The "Dead Parrot" sketch? The "Nudge, nudge" sketch? One of the movies? "Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail" (?) was good. I have always liked the "African Swallow" dialogue. Classic!

Note: Once again I cannot use the search function to see if this has been asked before. If it has, don't flame me!

The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

My favourite film was Life of Brian, the jokes and story are the best crafted. I agree their movie Meaning of Life is a bit crass, but most of their other works aren't in comparison to that film or more modern day comedies.

I have the whole MPFC set on DVD, I certainly like 2nd half of the 1st season all the way to the 1st half of 3rd season the best. All the best comedy was in the middle of their show length.

I even have the lost German episode, with the Princess and the Olympic games.

My favorite skit, is actually a whole episode. The Bicycle Tour was a full episode length and was just hilarious!!! There were bits you could call skits, but it was all together in one long story.

@skymouse,

It was the Black Knight that Arther fought. The Green Knight was the one that the Black Knight killed.

And I love Monty Python. I've seen all there movies, and most of the shows. I think I liked the Cheese Shop best.

And one time at Scout Camp...the theam was Lumberjack. So, my troop sang the Monty Python Lumberjack song.

my favorite scenes are both from Holy Grail...

Lancelot's endless run to the castle and the killing that ensues therein.

and the passing through the farm, with the debate on how he became king!

I love all the movies and every skit I have seen on tv.

"On this ship you are to refer to me as Idiot, not you Captain. I mean... you know what I mean."

Life of Brian? Bah. Holy grail is the best by far. It has the french taunters, the swallow dialogue, god getting mad at them for groveling, the holy hand grenade, the line "What is your name, what is your quest, what is your favorite color", the scene at the end where the cops show up and arrest them all, lancelot and castle Anthrax, the black knight, and more!

All said and done though, the best sketch has to be the "How not to be seen" sketch from "And now for somthing different", even though the movie was garbage, rendered in Halo form!

Behold...
or, if that doesn't work, go here and search for "how not to be seen"

EDIT: and lets not forget the killer rabbit mind you! But neway, the site is being tempramental and may take a while to load

That whole movie was really just reenactments of the series best sketches. I never bought it because I have all the same sketches in the entire DVD set of the series. The thing that bothered me the most about that reenactment was not having a live studio audience anymore to react to it. There was more liveliness in the original skits.

Sorry, Holy Grail makes life of brian seem boring.

It piddles on Brian from a great great height.

Between shrubberies, knights wanting to gnaw off kneecaps, randy nuns, witch weighing, flying rabbits, flying cows and french soldiers, the 3 questions...... my god - need i say more?

Far outweighs the life of brian. If you disagree, suggest that before you post, go watch them both back to back and honestly try to tell me Brian was better!

@Chips, I can honestly say I think Life of Brian is a better movie, that's my opinion.

I actually watch Holy Grail more, but the humour is just a tad more childish than Brian. And don't ask how I can like one film more, but watch it less. Casablanca is a far better film than Terminator 3, but I can more easily be in the mood to watch T3. The reason why Casablanca is better is because of the characters and story.

The story in Brian is far superior because it is flows quite well, where Grail stops from time to time to make jokes then they pick the story back up again. The characters are more rounded in my opinion and its historical parody is unparelleled. Grail had a lot of historical parody as well, but it wasn't as thorough as Brian had been. It was more based on our perceptions of those times, whereas Brian was more accurately portrayed/parodied. The best humour relies on truth, which is why my plays are so funny.

BTW, Chips, do you converse much with Giskard, Wanderer or Downwind_Thief? I was just wondering if they wanted to read my recent play that is itself a historical parody?
