totally, i mean i was away for like 12 hours while i came back home, i logged back in and half the "posts today" section is full of crap. there are more locks than ever now and its getting beyond a joke. I for one refuse to post on alot of these threads, just because i think most of them dont have any merit whatsoever. if someone asks a question i'll answer but not on some benine ****e. i mean "how do you clasify a n00b"? "spam: semantic definition" and now everyone wants to start some webstory or another which begets even MORE crap. I'm dreading the next time SS goes on a week long holiday or something because half the damn archive will get uprouted and reposted on.

I'm with you, this spam has to stop. Like maybe deleting threads outright or something. Stick a previso on the site saying, "if a threads gone, a mod musta done something so email them, dont start another thread about it". We can seriously cut the **** if we wanted to. we just need strickt (sp?) mods

I would like to propose a 'spam counter'. When moderators close a forum because of spam, the spammers will get a 'spam point'. Too meny 'spam points' and you will be either removed from the forums or demoted. Like if a Captain spamms away then he would go back to 2nd Luitenent.

That would probably stop alot of spaming.

I agree. One of the main reasons people spam is to gain rank. If they get demoted, they'll take a second look at what there doing.

I deleted four posts of a certain someone yesterday in two forums....I didn't have the energy to email him or berate him in the forum, coz he would just say "oops sorry" which of course constitute as spam...

BlazeME, I fully agree with you but about your plans of demoting someone,
from say a captain to a 2nd LT, you would have to delete a lot of posts to do that, thus you diminish his free right of speech over the internet.
I know that this will cause a lot of fuss amongst the many that will undoubtetly receive this, and this will escalate to the point where they call everyone here socalled "Forum-Nazi's". Mind you that this has happened in the not so distant past, and if I recall correctly it made Bargib even consider quiting the Lancers Reactor in total, and I don't think you want that.

I agree with all of you that the spamming must stop, and Gromit I also hate those socalled "one-word-replies" or smileys, especially when followed by a sig that is a mile long. But this is not the worst here, the longest sig here is peanuts
in comparison to a sig on a forum elsewhere (I will not include a name of the specific forum, but I think Archie knows what I am talking about).

My main reason for aggrevation is/are the socalled forum trolls, or Rampant Users that just want some attention. Personnally I find them pathetic, and I think they should bring their grievances to where it matters.

I try not to spam but I don't always succeed.
But then again, there's nothing wrong with a spam thread every now and then imho, just to fool around a bit. And I don't meen the comical, unsensical sticky.
All those serious and long discussions, I sometimes just can't be bothered with them. I usually don't even read the longer posts. That's probably because most of the topics here don't interrest me.

I agree though that there have been a lot of useless and senseless topics going around last few weeks. that just happens when people run out of things to talk about.

Typically there are 30 locked threads in the list in the last 30 days. That averages (obviously) to 1 thread a day being locked. Right now, there are 43 threads that are locked. We are indeed above our average spam count. But remember 3 of those locks was due to one rampant poster, Mullet.

There's also the kind of spam where people just repeat what the last person said, which is really annoying. Sometimes it happens accidentally because they're too lazy to read all the replies (I know I've done this) but if you're too lazy to read the replies, you shouldn't take the time to post anything.
