How do you classify a n00b ?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

How do you classify a n00b ?

Out of interest ,do you judge them by :

A ) Rank ( Recruit , 2nd lieutenant etc)
B ) Questions ("Can you tell me where the Hispania is ?" etc)
C ) Topics Posted ( "What is the Best Ship ?", "What is the Hispania" etc)
D ) Manner ( Posts with no paragraphing, capital letters etc)
E ) Attitude ( "I'm just posting this to raise my rank","I art holier than thou" etc)
F ) Posting frequency (1-2 posts/day= N00b, 4-8 posts/day= Regular, 12/20 = Super Spammer ,etc)
G ) Posting Area (Asking for spoilers in the discussion forum)
H ) Other ( Please state)

Edit: Added "I art holier than thou" - Requested by Whasp Commander
Edit: Changed 2/4 posts/day = Regular TO 4/8 posts/day = Regular,
Added 12/20 = Super Spammer - Requested by ) : Wolf_Demon : (

N00b comes from a classic darwin-like evolution of the newbie, here is a step by step playback of the evolution of the newbie.

First we had the Newbie, but he was hard to pronounce and far too long to type, so once the Newb came on the scene, the Newbie quickly died out. The Newb was much easier to type and pronounce and flourished but he was difficult to spell. This brought rise to the Noob, a powerful creature the Noob was, easy to pronounce, type and spell. But the Noob was laking something, he was not quite l33t enough to survive. Here arose the N00b, the most powerful and feared version of the newbie, easy to pronouce, spell, type and with a hint of l33t that made him more annoying than can be possibly imagined.

But to the real question at hand. A N00b souldn't really be defined, they should only be led on the right path to enlightenment, so that we may shape thier idiocy into elligible and sensible posts that have meaning and purpose.

Seriously though, I don't like labelling people as N00bs, it's insulting to new people who just want to hang out and voice thier opinions. Sure they don't get as much respect and I quite happily kick around the really annoying ones, but it is rude and stupid to discount someones opinions just because they don't post in every thread or ask a question that has been asked before.

But if you had to ask me what I thought a true N00b would be, it would be the arrogant pig who has a total of 10 posts with 50% of those posts insulting other members. Or someone who goes out of their way to wreak havoc on the forums, spamming thier butts off and so forth. They usually don't last much longer than 10 posts here anyway.

/end rant

In my opinion a N00b is bad and Newby is good
A n)0b is a crappy anoying peron who doesn't care what the hell he does and what others think of him, basically an arrogant bastard. I wont call anyone a n00b until he realy is.

A newby is a gentle, unexperianced forum visitor who asks normal, although frequently asked questions in a polite way and answeres in a similar polite way. I do call some new kids a Newby but only to tease them a little, not to flame, rant or insult.

So they're two different persons imho.

In answer to your question, all of the above! . Actually, I think that anyone who is a newcomer to the TLR boards is a "n00b". This is because, by definition, the individual in question IS a newcomer.

Esquilax

============================================================
The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

Post Tue Dec 16, 2003 3:19 pm

esquilax, That is not true
and I agree with Nickless's statement.
sorry to bring this up but jessy (Aka Lord of....) and Newborndevil were n00bs

I do not know any newbies but I do know that they are around here,
and they have no definate rank, thats just a load of BS
but anyways, as for the internet and such, I still consider myself a newbie

No clasification necessary. A n00b is a state of mind, or action rather. Nobody ever qualifies as a n00b but rather a "newbie", the less derogative form, unless they are acting n00bish.

So, by that token, any one of us could/can be n00bs from time to time... even if we've been here a while. All we have to do is make a "strange sound" thread

Post Tue Dec 16, 2003 11:20 pm

Wow. This is..um...enlightening? The history of the poor and oppressed newbies. They're like the serfs of our grand empire that is TLR. Me? I judge a newbie by their attitude. If they act like a newbie, bingo, they're a newbie. And by that I mean, acting like a stupid, foolish, arrogant..um..person. There ya have it.

And yet again, it all comes down to opinion (and I'm right j/k)
