Political Correctness and You

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

@RILMS

Wisdom and age are two different things. Usually, wisdom comes with age but not always. Just consider yourself wise, not old.

Post Wed Dec 10, 2003 8:26 pm

@ Indy,

lol, granted. You can have a wise 12 year old. But it's still fun to call myself old and hear peoples reactions....just don't say it around a girl thats slightly older then you....*shutters* Hell knows no furry like a woman's scorn.

Well, I'm not touching most of that. That is not to say that I don't have a view, but I know when to keep my mouth shut .

I think that a lot of problems between males and females are caused by one thing; Women have children and men cannot. Therefore, according to some people, women are far more important in the scheme of things. You know, propagation of the species, etc. Lots of strange people out there... You know, we are REALLY off topic now. Let's get back to political correctness....

Indeed Freighter Fighter, I knew that "female" meaning "of man" had some basis in reality. Well, that is assuming that the bible is... sorry off-topic. We don't want a locked thread now, do we?

RILMS - "Agreed, there are industries that make tons of toy dolls..." No, no, no! They are not "dolls", they are "aspiration figures". I love PC, don't you?

The above post is true, and by true I mean "false". It's comprised of lies, but they are entertaining lies and in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is "no".

I was just about to respond to 4 of the last 6 posts. But I dislike thread hijackers myself, so I will abide by your request.

Although, in previous years of my life I have already exhausted myself on many debates regarding politcal correctness and don't really wish to continue it once again.

Well, I've noticed that any topic on men vs. women is doomed to be long
Anyway, there's one statement I read about feminists - it was in Russian, so the translation will not be as strong as the original:
Feminists dress like men, work like men, drink like men, and swear like men, but at nights they're done just like ordinary chicks.
Kinda interesting POV.

there's a famous quote, but I'm not sure who said it originally...

A man opens a door for a woman, and the woman says quite angrily, "you know, you don't have to open the door for me just because I'm a lady"....perplexed the man replied, "madam, I opened the door for you because I'm a gentleman".

I thought it was quite an intelligent reply personally....I also like to imagine that he concluded the sentence by banging the door in her face, but hey thats just me

Heh, both quotes are fun.

When I was in HS, I took a survey of some various girls that I knew. I asked them if men and women shouild be equil. Most said yes. After that, I asked them if it would be alright then for men to be able to hit women like men hit men. As in a playful way. Like punching your buddy on the arm to cheer him up.

All of them said that would not be right. I asked them why. They answered with, "Because we're girls". But I thought that wanted to be equil with men. Gotta take the good with the bad ladies.

interesting point you've raised there RILMS....on a similar note, I want to offer you all a true story for discussion...this happened about a year ago.

I was out with a group of friends having a few drinks, few laughs, usual sort of stuff. The pub shuts and we all stagger outside. On the street outside of the pub, a girl came over and started to hug my friend. Unbeknown to him, she was stealing his wallet. Problem was, she wasn't very subtle about it, so when the rest of us saw it happening we all started shouting "OY!" and the like.

So then (for no reason) she completely flips out....I mean completely lost it....this girl started going absolutely nuts kicking and punching my mate. Now my friend's a passive kinda guy so he just stood there and took it....she punched away (and I'm talking full-on swings at his face here), kicked him in the nuts twice, kicked him so hard in stomach that he found out 2 days later that she'd broken 3 of his ribs. We couldn't get near her to pull her off, she was swinging away, kicking, biting, everything. Meanwhile, stood less than ten metres away, 2 bouncers stood and laughed.

Then she lashed out once more, punched my friend right across the cheek, missing his left eye by millimetres. She caught him with a ring on her finger which sliced open his face from his ear to his nose. So that was the last straw, my mate swiftly (and calmly may I add), slapped her across the face with one clean palm.

The bouncers dived in, pinned my mate to the ground, punched him hard in the face breaking his nose instantly. All the time screaming "never hit a girl you ******". Pinned me to a wall and banged my head against it til I passed out...and then proceeded to let the girl go....without even asking her name.

We then spent a night in custody for ABH and D&D....!! Obviously the next day they dropped the charges, but the fact is, it happened. And most importantly, it happened because of pure unadulterated sexism.

Now tell me...was my friend wrong to slap the girl?

2000 words on my desk by friday. Discuss.

That is one mutha of a story!

Wrong? He should have knocked her flat!! I know it isn't gentelmanly, but what she did would fetch a nice sentence for ausalt, in adition to her attempting to rob him?!

Normaly I'd have said no, he should have somehow restrained her, but like you said, she was, sorry about this and nothing against your friend as he was trying to be sensible, kicking his ass! When you are that big of a b**** there comes a point where you deserve it.

Post Thu Dec 11, 2003 4:41 pm

Did you make sure you were loud enough and making sense enough that the bouncers knew that she had tried to steal the wallet? Also, by the sounds of things, the bouncers completely over-reacted and deserve to be prosecuted, they're hired to stop undesirable customers from entering the premises, not to attack several people off of their property. Unless of course you haven't told us the whole truth, I mean, exactly how much had you been drinking?

Post Thu Dec 11, 2003 5:23 pm

@recusant - I had a feeling someone would bring up the drink issue...but I swear I'm telling the truth.

The bouncers in derby couldn't give a flying **** if you're on their premises or not. The town is renowned for "ex-cons" working doors. We tried to prosecute the bouncers, but I was too messed up to take in their faces enough to swear in a court, and the pub that they were working for "lost the security rota", so they couldn't be traced. As for making it clear to the bouncers what was going on, we were screaming at them at one point to do something and they just replied stuff like "yeah...but she's fit int she?!" (she was wearing a short skirt).

Hitting a girl? My mate should have decked her...at least then we could have had her prosecuted for assault.

The thing that annoyed me the most about the whole thing was that I spent a night in jail suffering from concusion, and all I did was try to pull her off my mate. I'm the first to admit that I'm a complete weakling....I run away from confrontation rather than getting involved. I haven't even got the balls to argue with my boss for christs sake...

MFG!!!!!

Your story makes me mad. And people wonder why I say women control men.

Just one little slap and those bouncers beat you and your mates up? That makes no sence at all.

*fumes*

bouncers, pah! kick 'em in the goolies and they go down just like anyone else. Never let size intimidate u, if u do then u'v lost a fight before u start. Winning fights is as much in the head as it is in ur strength or size.

I both agree and disagree with you. About taking the good with the bad, regarding career opportunities, responsibilities, and spot on the lifeboat in a sinking ship situation and stuff like that - I agree with. But equality in "punching in the arm" stuff is just silly, man. Girls have different mindset, and thus different subculture. Asking equality in punch-in-the-arm is analogous to asking the Japanese to stop using chopsticks, so that they would be "equal" to Americans and Europeans. Equal does not mean identical. You're confusing the issue. Equality means neutralizing the gap between "superiority" and "inferiority", not "difference".

Another aspect of what is "pc" in the U.S. is what constitutes "sexual harrassment". This happened to me. I was talking with a co-worker about getting unwelcome things in e-mail. I said that a girl I had never talked to sent me a picture that was a "nudie". The next day I am called to the bosses office and written up for "sexual harrasment". There were about 6 people present when I said this and one of them decided that she was "offended" by my comment.
One cannot go through life without offending or being offended. It is totally unrealistic.
