Sim World- anthropology questions

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I can see the future now, much like a screenplay I am writing (so none you twonks give it out or take it, its mine ... that goes for you too ff ).

We colonize a planet. Some settlers go. We have certain political realities here on Earth. The colonized planet often gets a short shrift. We need funds, we tax the goods we export to them, they are small and far away, no bother to the politicians here. Then they get fed up, take a shipment of imported Earth Breakfast tea and jettison it out of airlocks. Now known as the Martian Tea Party, rebellious blood is being boiled on the red planet toward a faraway government that doesn't respect their livelihood. They rebel and cast out all "Earthies." Earth sends its space navy to end the uprising, but with a strong spirit and the financial and weaponry aid of Moonians they repel the Earth forces to found a new planet conceived of in Liberty and Tea for all!

Arthur C. Clarke's "Earthlight" already covered that plot, pretty much

how about this? the colonists start falling out shortly after landfall and within a short while are split into various factions, then start attacking each other for resources and pre-eminence, and eventually virtually destroy each other. that's a bit more realistic, isn't it?

I don't think terraforming is too hot a prospect. even if u could get the resources to undertake it, it's a long term prospect, and even if it worked, surely the new environment would need constant maintenance, otherwise nature would try to revert back all the time. Nice description of that process in "Foundation & Earth" when the travellers visit some of the abandoned early Spacer worlds and the terraforming has virtually broken down.

as an update, those of u with an interest in this subject and/or colonisation sim/strategy games, may be interested to learn about a forthcoming title called Perimeter which I think looks rather groovy, developed by Russian prgmrs KD Labs and published by Codemasters, who generally put out quality stuff. Out early next year, apparently.

@sS,
Sounds a bit like a cross between our lovely American heritage and the "Robot" series by Asimov. I like the books, like American history, sounds like a winner to me!!!
