Really? I always thought if that happened 2 u you were just f*kt. Forgive my ignorance, but is it like a downloadable program or part of Yahoo e-mail services?

All the spam I get is from popups when I am on the internet itself
So there is no trouble at all

I've had my personal email address for over 10 years now, and I rack up about 100-150 pieces of spam a day. If anyone has a solution to this please please please let me know. I did hear once of a way of getting "struck off" spam lists...anyone know about this?

I can't give out my personal addy on forums anymore because if I don't recognise people's real names I automatically bin them as being spam....the addy I use here is one of my work addresses.

forget about those lists - it happened several times already that those liste were sold to spammers (for big money - because THESE adresses were verificated!).

what else:
1. use another than your personal addy in forums and do not use @, use capitals AT (ok, banal)
2. make a (new) address at gmx.net. This Germany based company has excellent spam-filters (90 - 99% effective in my experience) and it's free !
There might be other providers with good filters in UK or USA; but afaik gmx is best.
3. spend about 1 £ / 3$ per month for "Spam arrest" (they have a 30-days free trial period too - see http://spamarrest.com).

OK, this looks like advertising, but it's here as info. I know a guy who runs a web publisher company - and he has got rid of spam with this product.

Spampal for e-mail spam, combined with properly config'd message rules (also use another e-mail client like Eudora or OperaMail)
Tweak-XP ad-blocker for banners

@Loc, check yer e-mail for my preferred pop-up filter (works a treat!)

It also is a question of the labor you are willing to apply. I needed a fresh start, which I had to do twice because I didn't get the spam filtering working right and I didn't get the best ones for it. AND I didn't use the AT for @ or "NoSpam" device in my addy disclosures the first couple of times.

So I dumped my oldest account that way, and my next account for the same reason because I did not want to spend the time teaching my filter en masse.

I didn't want to give up my addresses but most of my friends were only mildly annoyed. My family made more noise as did my outlaws...er...inlaws but, hey, you can't pick your relatives.

Well I don't, and I'm glad to say that I can put an adress here and not have people spamming it. Thanx guys

Most of the time, a website will not give your adress or anything to other commercially oriented sites. However, they can just browse your profile and pick out your email adress without the original site even knowing it!

That's why I try to avoid sites where, when I have to register, I am forced to give my emial so that they can send a "affirmation mail" (or something). You can't be to cautious, ey?
