you're lucky. u do have an AGP slot, 4x. your board is the KT-133 VIA chipset, good & reliable, getting on a bit now though. you can bang a fairly decent card in there no probs, apart from cooling, you might be a bit cramped depending on your case. disable the shared memory in ur BIOS when u get a new card and away u go. mind u uv got a 32mb vga chipset in there, that's sufficient for most ordinary purposes, but it's lame for most games now. and for ur reference, here's
your specs
u can put up to a decent Athlon in there, i don't know what uv got in now. don't try flashing the bios, HP/Compaq lock em. shame cos if they didnt u could update the bios and support a faster processor (assuming uv got the 5000/5000A) but its an oem board see? made by someone else for Compaq to tie in with Compaqs production run for that model, so it would only suit a certain range of processor speed Compaq had in for that period. so if u want to upgrade ur forced into buying a later model!
anyway u can put a new VGA card in no worries and u could put a new sound card in too as its only AC97 audio (again disable in BIOS) and u could shove a bit more memory in too, but if yer folks are getting u a new one then don't bother. Compaq's are toss, technicians hate them because they're really difficult to work on, any specific parts are ridiculously expensive if u can't use generic/third party, and they aren't such good pcs anyway, the basic components are the same as lots of others but u pay over the odds for the Compaq name. make sure they get u a proper computer, or get the components and build it urself, u'll learn loads about pcs that way!
@Arch, lol that's very apt, but i think bob3terd's beyond even that now "hs engshl si o vry bd espeshly wen hs ritng bout the irsh ari fors" so he's bound to become a copper or a salesman or something like that.
