Will it work???

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Will it work???

Is it possible for Battlefield 1942 to work on this video card

Savage AGP 3D Graphics with 8mb of memory (battlefield needs 32mb)

The reason I ask is because I can play Unreal Tournament 2003 on my current virecard. UT2003 needs 16mb (32-128MB recomended) of video memory and the game works just fine on 8mb. So do ya think BF1942 will work too??

There are two things I don't know:

1. I don't know the answer to your question.
2. I don't know why I responded.

lol Ss, thats considered spam

Anyway I just found this out after testing my PC on pcpitstop.com

BIOS is reporting that there is 512 MB of RAM, but Windows reports that 480 MB is available. The most common reason for this discrepancy is that your system uses some system RAM for the video graphics card or BIOS functions. This case is common in highly-integrated PCs with video graphics built into the system board, and does not require any changes on your part.

Please tell me that this means that I have 32mb of video memory??

the answer is no, it won't. UT has an alternate video mode that allows u to play on lower spec cards, although u dont get the vis qual u still get the gameplay. BF1942 needs hw T&L which u aint got. Replace ur card. are these onboard graphics by any chance? S3 Savages often are, disable them in ur BIOS if they are when u get a proper graphics adapter

edit - ah yes they are onboard, u posted just while i was writing this out. if u bang a proper v/card in, u can disable that onboard crap and free up the memory it uses for ur system.

(whatever u do don't get the GeForce FX5200, its crap)

only 2 more weeks and I get my Radeon 9800, can't wait!

@Leon, my Video card says exactly how much ram is on it the second I turn on the computer. I thought all of them did that now.

If not, can you check the Device Manager in Windows, then look at Video card and it may be listed there to how much ram you have.

You almost answered your own question. No is the answer I think.

@ Spectre

Nope in device manager it does not say ammount of RAM video card uses, I guess I will have to find out with the demo *holding his fingers crosed*

Also, anybody know normal PC speed and video speed??

I get this after testing

Video
28.7 MP/s (No similar CPU/MHz/video)

PC speed
3584 MB/s (No similar CPU/MHz)

Is this good?

Post Sat Nov 15, 2003 7:14 pm

Demo does not work, I get an error saying it cant create 3d device

Guess I will have to get a new card after all

Post Sat Nov 15, 2003 7:19 pm

thats cos it hasnt got T&L, i got the same yonks ago when i tried 1942 on a Riva TNT2 M64, so make sure u get a Radeon or a GeForce.

beware when u install the new card, check first to see if u actually have an AGP slot on ur motherboard cos sometimes with onboard u dont get an actual slot, if uv only got PCI slots u might well struggle to find a viable card and u'll end up having to change mobos.

btw those benchmarks u gave are data throughputs/transmission rates, not the same as the machine speed specs expressd in mhz. totally different.

I can check those ports in device manager,no??

If so, under System decvices I found this

PCI bus
VIA Tech CPU to AGP Controller
VIA Tech CPU to PCI bridge

Those are only 3 things with AGP and PCI

@Leon, yes, do what Taw says. And if you need help choosing a video card .... just look at your own Video card thread. Because I am NOT going through it again.

Lol, thx Ss, I almost forgot about that post. Thanks for reminding me

Post Sat Nov 15, 2003 7:57 pm

no those are the system device controllers, not the actual physical slots on yer mobo. for god's sake don't fiddle with those in device manager!

when u open up ur pc, u will find a row of white slots about 4 inches long by 1/2 wide, those are ur PCI slots, next to them and slightly to the right and back may be a similar sized brown slot, thats yer AGP (u might have some long black ones over to the left, theyre ISA, forget about those. if u cant find the AGP slot then u will have to get a PCI graphics card that has an AGP chip on it, they do exist for those who aint got an AGP port. u'll have to tell ur BIOS to boot from PCI not AGP though if thats the case. this is a pre-assembled machine yeah? if its got a make and model number, let me know and i'll tell u what the score is, no problem i do this a lot!

@sS, does this fall under #31?
