hate snow, hate the cold, a month ago i was sunning myself in Italy, now I'm going to be snowed on. oh joy.

in fact lets be accurate, we don't have snow, we have sludge. cold grey/brown sludge. and the first sludgeflake brings on traffic jams and train cancellations.

It hasn't snowen here for more than 16 years. However, about 10 inches north of the city limit... *sigh*

snow is not that unusual in oct the last few years it has been a bit rare though
lying snow is another matter thats pretty well unheard of this early at low altitude
here
though in the hills its pretty common ive skied in the uk many years in october including last year

Post Tue Oct 21, 2003 10:22 am

snow in the uk is pretty damn rare these days for instance, the surrounding towns and villages around ashford got 2 inches of snow, what did ashford get? 5 INCHES OF BLOODY RAIN!!!

I'm sure its getting earlier though, because I swear that 10 years ago the main month for snow was February....certainly not october!

And for the record, its bloody cold down here today, 6 degrees according to my system tray

Post Tue Oct 21, 2003 12:36 pm

jan and feb are definitely the best months for snow esp lying snow even now but ive seen it lie in june till the sun came up as i have in oct even at low level though these extremes are VERY rare

I live on Dartmoor in the Southwest, if it’s going to snow, it almost always snows here. Best snow ever though was in Austria. Went skiing for two weeks over there, and was initially disgusted to find that I had paid for a skiing holiday, and all we had were rutted icy slopes. It started snowing gently on the afternoon of the second day; we woke up the following morning to THREE FEET of fresh powder, and it turned out to be the best holiday I have had.

(For the Europeans amongst you, three feet is 900mm.)

you can get too much (even in a ski resort) so be careful what you wish for
mind you id sooner have too much than too little !
