@AoD, Taw dug this thread up originally by editing something of his for no good reason really. Indy posted in it after 2 days of it sinking, it happened to be right at the time Mullet was posting Spam in a frenzy so I had to ask if Indy missed it. That's why the thread is back.

@Indy11, btw, did you see my edited response to your edited response on the previous page?

actually I had a good reason at the time, but in retrospect it was probably a mistake. let's just get it clicked so it goes away.

WB, it's Compqrap!

I LOVE computers. I work in IT, and I have been waiting for such a thread. Thanks! I built my computer myself, but unfortunately I was severely limited in expenditure at the time of purchase. Therefore, here is my beast;

CPU - P4 2.4 533MHZ FSB I didn't know about the 800MHZ FSB
MB - ASUS P4S8X Long story
RAM - 768 Kingston + Samsung DDR2700 Don't ask. Really.
HDD - 40GB WD 7200 RPM + 2MB Cache I don't need anything larger
CD-RW - Samsung 252B 52x24x52 Cheap and sturdy
CR-ROM - Asus 52x Not much to say here
Case - Generic Midi-Tower with 400W PS I know, I know
Sound Card - Creative SBLive! It does the job
Speakers - 2 Yorkville Passive Reference Speakers and a Pioneer Amp LOVE that deep bass!
Monitor - 19" Phillips 109B Made sense at the time
Video Card - Sapphire Radeon 9700 Overclocked from 275/270 to 340/310 Perfectly stable with stock cooling!

Phew! I think that's all of it. By the way Mustang, good to see some other "techies" around here.

Mmm, that may just be my largest and most elaborate post ever. I hope someone actually reads it...

Oooo I just bought some Logitech z-680's and and cast the Cambridge Soundworks pea shooters into the spare pile. I am now the ultimate power in the galaxy!

I'd seriously reccomend them to anyone, the clarity is stunning for music and DVD. The 8 inch subwoofer pumps out some serious bass, so much so I've had to cram an old pillow between the back of my desk and the wall to stop the chipboard backplate from rattling and if you like it loud you'll love em. I haven't been game to turn them all the way up yet but 3 quarters volume is well loud.

Those speakers are supposed to be VERY nice. A bit on the expensive side though. I still say that you can't beat a good powered amp and some bi-wire speakers. Plus, you can connect it to a TV or to a sound system, etc. Better for wider applications. Before I borrowed the passive reference speakers and amp, I was using some Altec Lansing AC54s *4.1). Not enough bass .

You can connect the Logitechs up to a DVD but that's about the limit of thier versatility. BTW Esquilax, I picked them up at Harvey Norman (aussie dept. store for you non-australians) for $600, which is $200 off the list price. Still pricey but not as pricey.

when i want some external sound (if I can't be bothered with my Altec Lansings, again not ebough bass, I concur with Esq, I pump it through a semi-decent Sony amp and some Jamo speakers, the music and dvds are actually worth listening to then.

@AoD, i thought u wanted to be a computer technician! when ur system first starts to POST, u'll see the video BIOS version and ur video chipset come up first, then the next thing u will see is ur mobo BIOS and chipset version, u have to be quick! u can press esc to pause the boot process. Once u'v got that, u can then get the specs of the board from the manuf. site, bear in mind that a lot of oem boards in branded machines have the clock multiplier functions locked in order to prevent u doing what u ar trying to do, which is why I never get pre-assembled branded kit.
