This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Actualy thanks in part to some long flat plates and a "spine" structure it is quite strong

@Arch, I'm having to put this here cos work e-mail is down for rest of day

I'm presuming u wanted UK-based asp hosts

www.waverider.co.uk (ours, bit crap really)
www.velnet.co.uk
www.asp-host.co.uk
www.totalasp.co.uk
www.uk-hosting.co.uk
www.hostinguk.net
www.tollon.net
www.icso.net
www.gen.net.uk
www.aspnethosting.org.uk

I can't really say how good these other people are, our web-boys reckon theyre ok, couldn't give me an idea on price though. myself i think W'rider are pants but our head web-kn*b rates them that's the best i do for you for now

edit - I've just been given a high recommendation for www.easynet.co.uk

donhosts looks quite good. once i can be arsed, i'll sign up with them, although now ive got to broach this topic with my boss....he wont be pleased. i'm actually hoping he'll just fire me and get someone else cause i'm sick to death of doing this. it started 3/4 months ago as a favor cause the old site looks and at the moment still is crap (www.planetofthebreaks.com) so i emailed him some designes i had done and asked if he wanted me to redo the sight for him. fast forward to last week where i had the site evaluated at well over £2000 and a boss who has absolutely NO understanding of the prices of websites...i dont think i'm gonna get paid for this.
So i just want out. as far as humanly possibly away from this pile of ****e website which is what he's turned my design into () with his meddling and changing of colours etc. i mean its not like i dont have coursework to have finished and on someones desk VERY soon, the last thing i need to be doing is this crap for some guy i dont really know that well back in shrewsbury.

Ah but such is life. Once this is outa the way i'm emailing him the passwords and i'm just gonna tell him "heres your website, i quit"

welcome to the wonderful world of dealing with interfering morons perhaps i should have warned u where "favours" get u. drop it like a stone when u get him sorted out (get ur money first though) because unf. they're like leeches, they will continue to annoy u and plague u about rubbish usually caused by their own stupidity. Send the kn*b a bill for every e-mail u answer and every phone call and he'll soon wise up. I have several of these parasites who still plague me occasionally but since i instituted my "show me the money"** policy they don't bother me anything like as much. so be careful Arch or u'll end up on a helpdesk like me!

Donhosts are good, i was talking the guy who told me about them most of this pm about that and other stuff and he really rates them, he's a top developer and really knows his stuff.

** or perhaps in this case "Bring me the spaceman!"

slight further note, i went through a similar exercise a few years ago with a former boss of mine from years ago who i remaiined on good terms with. wanted a website for his design practice and got in touch with me, i knocked him a few designs out (basic html stuff with some cute touches) he of course had all sorts of grand ideas until he got the actual costs, he wanted to get away with his free 15mb Freeserve webspace for hosting, like give me a break! they ALL want top-notch websites but want tp pay next to nothing, all cheapskates. tell him u want paying or u aint doing any more work, esp. if he's getting p*ssy with u. if he tells u to f*** off then u know where u stand, at any rate. unless u need the cash for ur course fees etc in which case he has u over a bit of a barrel doesn't he? but there are ways round that problem, are there not?

It's a bank, used to be "Midlands bank" IIRC

Post Tue Nov 11, 2003 1:57 pm

I know it's a bank *twacks Recusant* but it rings a bell...and I don't know why. And what does IIRC mean?

mate I've been doing this for a long long time now, and I haven't met one single client that this doesn't apply to....the bigger the client, the worse they get. sometimes you have to sell a piece of your soul....its the unfortunate truth of the business.

ooooohhhhh how true this is. and again, the bigger the client, the cheekier (greedier) the b*st*rds get. eg. did a site for elton john...quoted £15K, which was a major undercut due to what he was getting but I wanted his name on my portfolio...his management came back with an offer of 7K! How stingy is that??! Cheeky ****.

Unfortunate way of life though...and the scary thing is, now that "everybody can build a website" (oh yeah right, that'll be frontpage and paint shop "pro" will it? uuurrgh!) things are getting worse. I had a client come in the other day wanting a 200 product ecommerce system, built entirely in flash. We quoted him around about £12K (which to be honest was quite a good quote for what he was getting), and he came back laughing saying that his wife's brother's mate could do it for £200! AAARRRGGGH!! People like this wind me up something chronic...my boss told him to f*** off and stop wasting our time - and then sent him a bill for the time we spent with him discussing ideas and building a quote! He didn't think for a second that the guy would pay, but he wanted to make a point.

Surprisingly the guy came back the next day and said...err ok we've decided to go with you...lol. Oh dear.

@RILMS you recognise them because their name was on the bottom of that baillif letter you received the other day
