Mad Graphix!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Mad Graphix!!

Ok, I'm looking for a really quality cheap graphics card...My "budget" (or what I'm willing to spend once I have the money) is $200.00, ~125.00 Pounds, and ~180.00 Euros. Currently, I'm spotting the ATI line of 128mbs (9600 or 9600PRO ~$200). Is this a good choice, or should I go for another brand, such as Geforce/NVIDIA?

Another thing--I couldn't find the difference between the normal ones and the PRO ones...Does anyone here know?

The Geforce card Im looking at is a 256mb FX 5600 for ~$206. Also--which one's better: XFX or PNY for brands of Geforce...

i have a GeForce 2.. got it for 175RM.. duno what it converts into.. but its prolly about 90s'pore bucks maybe that'll help conversion easier. its a 64mb. i'm thinking of gettin a new one as well. tho i duno if my mum's gonna see the need. anyone here know if GeForce 4 has any significant improvements in quality from GeForce2??

Chiggy: 9600 Pro is probably better than what you'll get for the same money from Nvidia. Difference between normal and PRO: Unsure, I think the PROs are clocked higher? PNY is better for Nvidia cards if you go that way...

Kimk: Geforce 2 is about three generations old, doesn't even use DX8 (much less DX9). The Geforce 4 is significantly better than your GF2, but the even numbered generations of Geforces are usually not worth buying. IE, the Geforce 256 was great while the GF2 series wasn't, the GF3 TIs were good but the GF4 were less so, merely enhanced but no really new features. The GF5s seem to be mixed, I'm unsure.

I have the AIW Radeon 7500 64Mb and I am looking to upgrade to the 9600 or 9800. I like the ATI cards a lot. They also have that trade up program right now. You can trade in your old card, dosent matter what kind, for $50 bucks off of a new card.

I have also been looking on ebay for a new card. Found a 9600 pro for $125. Don't know if it will work that well or not since it isnt brand name. Its 'powered' by ATI. Not 'built' by ATi.

I used to have a nVidia TNT2 32mb card and wasn't very happy with the drivers. That pretty much did it in for me and nVidia. Plus you get more with the ATI cards.

But I would wait a while and let the 9800's to come down in price then buy them. But if you absolutly have to, get the 9600 pro version.

its true, don't bother going down the Nvidia route, go ATi, better cards for the money in terms of capability and reliability. I won't have another Nvidia unless they substantially improve them, and not just for speed.

The second stage FX5600's are just as good if not better than the 9600's. There's not going to be much in it whatever way you go, you'll get a good card either way.

Nvidia are producing cards that are just as good as Ati (better in some cases). They just screwed the pooch with the FX5800 and every Ati fanboy worth his salt won't let anyone forget it.

I recently got a 128mb FX5600, really good card, no probs so far, much better than my old GF2 MX400 64 mb card...

Edit: forgot to mention it's an MSI, I got it just because of the better fan.

I'm gathering that ATI gives you more for your money...Right now I have an ATI 7500 64mbs, and haven't had /many/significant/ problems with it...I bought it bucause it had T&L, and was about the same price as the 7000 only better. My 'puter only has 1.6ghz, and 512 ram /upgraded from 256/ + the 64 meg card. I'm wondering if with 2x the speed /or whatever/ the NVIDIA would give me better performance than the ATI...so yea thats all

::rubs hands maniacally at the fact of his Radeo 9800::

::curses at the fact he has no games to use the card on::

I use a Radeon 9000Pro....and I'd recommend it to anyone. It handles 3D stuff superbly and does everything I need (and more) for Pro 2D work.
