My wife doesn''t understand me

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

My wife doesn''t understand me

if its ok with the admins, I'd like to open this one up to the floor...

do women understand the need for computer games?

vent away boys.

Good question. I have heard of such women but unfortunately they are somewhat elusive and have yet to be captured for further study. They are known to venture into Electronic Boutique's in a cunning disguise, quickly make thier purchase and vanish again as if they were never there.
Make no mistake my friends, the gaming woman is about as hard to catch as syphillis at a christian rock concert.
Your best bet is to hide your l33t gaming skillz from your regular women until she is weighted down by a wedding ring and child, that'll make it easier for you to catch her when she tries to make a getaway.

lol. the understanding woman, indeed as rare as rocking horse sh*t.

the gaming woman though...surely they're a myth?

My wife is getting closer to understanding video games but she hasn't caught completely on yet. She doesn't play any PC games but she likes some Gamecube games. She got into Pikmin, and she likes to play Smash Brothers and Mario Party. I thought I made a major breakthrough when she said she wanted to play Zelda Wind Waker but she got to the part near the beginning where you're in the pirate ship and have to grab swinging ropes and jump between platforms and she gave up. She said stuff like, "can't you do this part for me?" I said, "no. This is an important skill you must master to get through this game and if you don't learn it now you'll get stuck somewhere else." She got to the point where she could do 90% of the course and all she had to do was try a couple more times but instead she gave up and said she didn't like the game anymore.

Let's get those missiles ready to destroy the universe!!

its odd isn't it...I remember not long ago me and my gf went to visit a friend, when we arrived he was playing Tekken on the playstation with a couple more friends. We had a few beers and carried on playing and she took the p*ss all the way through the game..."you guys are all sad"..."god! grow up!"..."no I don't want a game saddo's"...then eventually after about an hour of moaning she grabbed the control, promptly beat the sh*t out of everyone on the game and started screaming stuff like "woohoo! I'm better than yooouuuu I'm better than yoooouuu!" AARRGGH!!

My friends tried to tell her that she was only beating us all because she was just hitting buttons at random as fast as possible, whereas we were actually trying to pull proper moves (sad i know). This argument seemed to increase the intensity of her p*ss taking and in the end it took 4 full grown men to prise the controller out of her hands and the machine had to be turned off to shut her up! Which prompted her into a 20 minute recital of the word "loser" in her best football supporter voice. lol.

I was secretly quite proud though even if she did annoy the crap out of me at the time

i think this example illustrates the point.

way back in 1998 my one true love the light of my life (yeah) asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said i wanted Half-Life.

It took 1/2 hr to explain what it was (after she stopped laughing) and why i wanted it, esp. when her eyes started glazing over.

A few days before my birthday I got a phone call at work, she was in EB and was arguing with the sales gimp that there really was a game called Half-Wit or maybe Get A Life.... I think I responded with epithets like "hopeless" "stupid" "woman" "forget it" and "I'll get it myself..."

true story. But what else can you expect from someone who finds the Sims:Hot Date a challenging computer game?

having said that she's f***ing brilliant at Galaxians!

..you think you're done with the past; but the past isn't done with you..

Oh man you guys are funny. I swear me and my bf spend countless hours playing pc and console games. The problem comes around when I want attention and he's still playing his games. I think what guys don't undersand is that if ya wanna get some...youre gunna have to put the controller down and spend some "quailty time" with your gal. Easy as that.

men have a hard time with women at the best of times, but geeks have it harder.

computers (not consoles), by design are 1 man operated, so its great for yourself, but then theres no social side to it. ergo, we get branded anti-social.
I'm sick of that now, i AM social, YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER PC TO PLAY WITH ME!!!

anyway. ive noticed that the girls LOVE nintendo games. not ALL of them natch, that would be too easy, but pretty much if its been designed by Shigeru Myamoto (sp?) then its a safe bet they'll play till their mustache is showing.

I find it best to humor the girls, pat them on the head and say "YES I KNOW I'M 20 YEARS OLD! I KNOW I STILL READ COMICS, I KNOW I STILL GET ACTION TOYS AND I KNOW ANIME IS JUST A CARTOON SO NOW GET OFF MY BACK AND LET ME PLAY MY VIDEO GAMES, I LIKE HAVING FUN"

and then after about 10 minutes of her sulking, you throw her the copy of the Sims you keep hidden away for the occasions like these and she'll sit their glued to the machine until the hard drive melts.

myamoto and the sims...thats all you need

(disclaimer: i love myamoto's games aswell, and ive also been known to play the sims on occasion. so dont go giving me grief saying i dont think guys should play them, its just for some reason (a reason i could tell you but i cant be bothered) girls just cant say no to those two things. Imagine if myamoto made a sims game...oooooh!)

good example from last night....

a repeat of "sex and the city" comes on tv, so I promptly get up and head upstairs to play FL (to little yelps of "you could always watch it with me"...yeah whatever). I play for half an hour and come back downstairs as its finishing (samantha getting nailed yet again and sjp ditching boyfriend x...is it the same every time??).

GF promptly takes the P*SS...."what's the game you play called again?"... "*grumble* Freelancer *grumble*"..."hehehehehehe, do you have special names for yourselves, the people who play the game I mean?"....*ignore* grrrrr!...."space gurus?".....*ignore*...."intergalactic warriors?"....*AAARGGGH!*....."do the people who watch sex and the city have special names??"...."yeeeahhh, women!"...."well there's your answer then"...."what?"...."people who play freelancer"....."eh?"....."MEN!"

this is getting too frequent for my liking!

I'd imagine that women would have to be the highest consumers of Sims add-on packs. I can't imagine a bunch of guys rushing down to thier local EB to pick up a copy of Sims Hot Date.
However if they brought out Sims Penthouse Pet Pillow Fight I could see guys buying it.
