I dont even have Photoshop. Is there a downloadable free trial version or do I have to steal it?

BTW, I can't get the lens flares to look right. What flare settings do you use, and do you scale the layer to be small or do something else? When I try the top and bottom look cut off for some reason.

@Tach I use the burn tool (O) to do the darker shading, this tool kicks ass cause you can control the exposure of it which makes it perfect for shading and you can either blot it out completely or leave as little or as much as you want of the texture showing.
Hehe I need to practice getting the embossing right, I actually don't go nuts on it, but the way I do it makes it come out way to harsh looking. You should have seen version 1 of this picture, the embossing was insane on that one.

@freighter fighter, im not sure what you mean but you should have your planet as a seperate layer from the back ground and use the outer & inner glow tools. That should only provide an inner and outer glow to give the appearance of an atmosphere, it certainly shouldn't blot out the texture of your planet.

@ Tach again, I do a bit of a shonky with the lense flare. Once everything is finished and all layers merged. I create a duplicate layer of the background, put in the lense flare where I want it and then erase all the erronous crap that comes with the lense flare tool (y'know the circles and stuff). For the smaller ones though, I do a flare at it's lowest setting and then repeat until im happy with it's luminosity.

However they all seem to come out with a bit of an orange tinge, so once all the area around it is erased (or close to) I use Image\adjust\color balance. that way you can change it's color to whatever you want.
Then erase any areas you missed (they'll be real easy to spot now), merge the layer and then repeat the cycle for your next star. It may sound like a lot of work for little reward but after a while you get pretty quick at doing them.

Thanks 'Stang I couldn't quite get it to work tonight, but I'll keep trying in the morning. In the meantime, I've merged my previous planet with my new starfield, dubbed Vespus Dust Field I then added my previous planet, and created this which looks better than the old one on the starfield

You got some nice cloud action going on there tach, I'm still trying to get that to work properly. I put some in the one above but it doesn't really show up.

Damn, Mustang. How did u get the planet to look so fricken amazing?

Here's mine: http://members.shaw.ca/electricbrain2/Starfield1.jpg 315KB 1024x768 I guess u can call that the Hulk planet. I never meant it to turn THAT green.

I just cant seem to make the embossing more detailed on the planets. Also, I need to get used to the colour control of the planets as well.....as you can see.

I WILL CRUSH YOU

@Leonhart: You can go and buy one for a several hundred bucks ^_^. There are other cheaper ways to get one, but discussing it would get the thread locked.

@EB: looks like the Brotherhood of Nod won the war and covered Earth with Tiberium

omg, freighter fighter, you have GOT to stop posting those type of posts. A tiny single thought is not even worth the space and bandwidth that takes up. So from now on, i would really appreciate it if you stopped spamming the boards. Thank you.

Nice work EB, FF & JKwhosaysNi, keep going with it, I want to see more.

Anyway here's my latest which is the first one I think deserves a title. So I have dubbed it 'The End of Morrow'
I hope y'all like it, it's a bit busy but I was testing out a lot of things, and they all seemed to work reasonably well so they all stayed.
