how do you get the port?

Our Server is : AMD 3200 Evolution Mod 1.27
IP: 68.94.147.24
Running Evolutions 1.27 mod and a custom mod made by me (Evo 1.27 Ship Add-on by Sanic) and the add-on should be available for download here on TLR soon. If you can't wait, email me at [email protected] and I will try to get to you.

See thread on this forum: "Other Freelancer servers both modded and non" for server rules and more info.

I will update the port as soon as someone tells me how to figure out the port.

For multiplayer (if you use a router)
To make sure that these ports are open or to open these ports, view the router manual to determine how to open these ports. Freelancer Server requires that the following ports be open to play online multiplayer games:
2300-2400 UDP

To host a multiplayer game the 2302-2304 UDP ports are open.

Well that's what it says anyway...

if using the direct connection you need to know the port number as well as the IP in use by the server or you cant ping it and join it, so this thread won't help anyone that the Master server fails for.

So force your server to use One specific port, on the FLserver Icon you use to start it add to its properties the port you want to use e.g.

@baked can you edit this thread once everyone gets the idea how to post there server info etc and remove the comment posts

The only way I found is (although my router isnt supposed to be firewalling at all) to forward the required ports to the pc that you play Freelancer on (ie giving that specific pc lone and direct access to those ports). However, the router configurations allow me to only forward 20 specific ports to my pc, whereas I need to forward 100 of them (2300-2400). Has anyone got a solution?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'll post here anyway. I can't play Freelancer online at all at the moment. When I try and connect, it simply says "Connecting to global server" and never gets past that stage. Never. Even if I use the -s command line and list a valid IP address and port number, the list is still completely blank. Help!

make sure you don't have a firewall up, some dsl and cable modems have a built in firewall, so you might have to contact you ISP for details or troubleshooting.

If you can conect to a LAN server (start a server to test this) then you know it is your ISP blocking the Internet servers

Due to my ISP's policy I had to change the IP address of the server as follows:
IP: 80.86.113.239 (or you can use fl.shaitan.ro instead
Port: 2302

@Narcotic - flserver uses over a dozen ports OUTGOING but only needs one port INCOMING. That is the port clients (players) play on thus you only need open only ONE INCOMING port. FL without the /P command will use the range 2302-2304 one port at a time from the lowest to the highest value until it finds an unused port, usually just 2303. With the /P command you can force that port to be any port and it is "invisibly" remembered in the FL global server list.

As for clients all ports needed for FL are OUTGOING and thus not affected by the large majority of firewalls, hardware or software. The only issues that may occur is if you have an OUTGOING firewall as well, like ZoneAlarm. ZA is tough to set up and even I have had issues knowing what I am doing all because of a tiny system change until I worked them all out. Also any firewall with uPnP in it (like WinXP's firewall and good gateways, like mine ) opens the OUTGOING ports automatically (that's the PnP part). At least that is how it seems to operate.

@Darkstone - Try checking and/or installing/reinstalling DirectX v9.0b. 9 out of 10 issues relating to FL global list display is related to DirectX being messed up in some odd way. Otherwise the other 1 out of 10 issue usually resulted in blocked OUTGOING ports, as Sanic suggests (but by something other than a gateway or modem since a vast majority of hardware firewalls do NOT block OUTGOING ports) or FL needs a complete uninstall/reinstall.

Boston Freelancer server is on port 2304 (no, not the range 2302-2304) but it's IP's (yes, I have two through a dual port gateway to one server) are dynamic (that means they change, are not static). Currently they are:
ADSL - 4.14.18.107
cable - 24.128.159.181
I would forget the cable connection because while it always comes back with that same "dynamic" IP address, the connection is full of laaaaaaaag, unpredictable and unplayable. I have coming in a couple of weeks a second ADSL connection and hope for better reliability. But these dynamic IP addresses are good only for the moment as a single crash, burp by the ADSL, log on time longer than lease time (usually 3 months) or anything to cause an ADSL log off will result in another, different IP address. Hence dynamic. And although I could have static IPs, I wouldn't want them. Makes the server WAY too easy a target (although I realize a determined, savvy hackor would not be too dissuaded).

IMHO knowing the IP and port of a server is only useful if the FL global list server is down. As for others, feel free to post your issues getting through your firewalls and such. I and others can and will answer as best as we know how. I have helped many people emailing me requesting help and have been pretty successful. In my experience if you can't get to the FL global server list (and it is up), then how can you log onto a server through the connection routines, DirectPlay in DirectX? If it is the server port being blocked and you can't unblock it (say the university or business or ISP blocks it) then knowing the port isn't useful. The server's INCOMING port itself would have to change.

Not trying to be negative but trying to help. Please correct where necessary. FYI, I say gateway where many manufacturers say routers. A gateway better decribes what a router/auto-logon/NAT server(firewall)/DHCP server/switch or hub, plus other things it does that calling it a "router" simply doesn't describe.

OK, both ADSL broadband lines are up. The IP addresses are:
ADSL #1 - 68.160.149.99
ADSL #2 - 68.162.246.70
Port is 2304. If you are lagging on Boston use the following command line code to get the other IP address to show as Boston on your global server list. The example shows ADSL #1 and assumes you are in the directory Freelancer.exe resides in (usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE).
freelancer.exe -s151.203.38.79:2304
There is also help in the readme.rtf file that installs with FL. These ADSL lines have dynamic IP addresses so I will do my best to keep these up to date.

EDIT: Change in IP address.
