Why play with us?
There really are many good reasons, here are some...
Our players and members play with Fairness, Sportsmanship and Honour at all times. We have always set the standard for helpfulness, gentlemanly and sporting behaviour towards other players, from as long ago as the Microsoft Beta testing of the original FL game, when our Guild founders were beta testers.
We are a self-developing Merchant Guild of mature players of from 9 to well over 50 years of age, who enjoy the company of like-minded people - helping, teaching, exploring, teamplay, challenges, gathering info and equipment for sale, a bit of buccaneering, bounty-hunting, pilot skills improvement, and designing and staging server events and challenges for the entertainment of our players and members.
We are very happy that we have multi-national membership and multi-lingual players from Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, the USA, the UK and Australia, and we welcome all newcomers.
What is our mod?
We have called it the RRJDS 2.80 Mod, and have registered it as exe version 2.80 here at Lancersreactor.
We initially based it on Crabtree's excellent WTS Worlds 2.40 mod, and it still bears a little resemblance to it, but (no offence intended to anyone at all) we fixed all possible bugs, omissions and non-sensible aspects. (As a courtesy we contacted all of the original modellers and modders that we could find emails for, for permission to incorporate their work, even though their work was already made available here at Lancersreactor and in other mods for general use. From most we got no reply at all, but credits and our thanks go to them for their work, just the same. Apologies for not mentioning them here but we feel that any omission of an important contributor would be much worse).
We fixed the disproportional ship and cargo capacities. Ships are now in proportion to each other, handle more as they should if they were "real", and their cargo capacities are in line with not only their size but also their purpose.
We also fixed or improved the appearance of many ships to bring them to life, and added many ships which we found appealing and thought them worth including in our mod. Our large cruisers, freighters, and especially the Vorlon Planet Killer and Borg Cube are really overwhelming!
We also fixed the weapons and shields, the new factions and their inter-faction affiliations, bribes, improved the NPC (AI) pilot skills and loadouts, added several purchasable equipment upgrades and commodities, and improved a great many trade routes. Players can now get started without a great deal of difficulty in a variety of roles, and we are finalising plans for more.
How do we play?
No player should play alone for long, we believe it is boring and sad. We team up and play together whenever we meet, it's far more fun. And the most fun is in starting new, different characters.
We ask our players and members to team up with our other players and to roleplay. This means making each of their characters look, talk and behave different, with different... er... well, characters! So a pirate should talk and behave like a pirate, a Buccaneer should be out making it abundantly and flamboyantly clear that he/she is out for highway robbery! A Mercenary should be out looking for hire, to escort traders, or defend miners, and a Bounty Hunter should be out hunting down our players' Bountied Characters, not NPCs.
Each player can have the default five characters per account, and can have more than one account, so this ensures a lot of scope.
We members ourselves carry out gentlemanly and sporting Buccaneering of other players (Demanding Money with Menaces!!) but are sure to never demand more than the player can afford, make allowances for newer players' lesser connection, ship, equipment or combat skills, and allow him/her the chance to ask for a "rain check" if he/she really doesn't want to be held up right now.
We allow Bounties to be placed by a player on any other if there is an interesting reason.
And we strongly encourage competitive challenges by our members and players for others to compete for Guild Awards, prizes and Trophies.
We have Clans and allow them base ownership and gentlemanly player tolling, and we encourage Clan wars with a purpose - but not perpetual duelling or mindless Kill-On-Sight campaigns.
We are happy to temporarily mod up our server for a Nomads War, or similar event.
Our Guild owns and operates banks for player loans, and shops where players can purchase equipment or information.
We operate a Combat Training School, and a Light Fighter Squadron, whose members fly light fighters only and seek to better their combat skills.
Finally...
We do not permit player harassment, perpetual purposeless duelling, or attacks on new players without warnings.
All of the ships and equipment can be purchased and are available to all players, there are no "admin-only" ships or shields or equipment - because we don't like to play with invulnerability, and we don't like bullying or banning players who misbehave. We just ask players to play by our standards - with Fairness, Sportsmanship and Honour, and they do just that.
Come and take a look, and if you like what you see, join us.
