Jahana: DLL. nameresources.dll to be precise

-------------------------

Post Wed Mar 12, 2003 6:42 pm

hmmmm :/

and... how about some open source thingie

someone takes everything that we have and puts it together...a first basic version...everyone downloads it and bases his work on the current version...for coordination a forum where everyone posts what he is actually working on to prevent having some stuff 2 times

maybe once a week a new version with new stuff..

the game could grow...everyone could research in his direction... i think its not that bad

a mod team itself is not really necessary...there is just something needed that includes all this stuff in 1 release

Ack.

Well, time to dust off my PE extractor/compressor then....

Thanks for the info.

Jahana

If at first you don't succeed, cheat. Cheat until caught, then lie.

Right now you have to go slow and let people focus on their own little projects, later. Once we get the Info base of what's modable and what's not, I'm sure a few people will get to work on what you propose.

@ the author, i suppose you are going to come up with an ' open source thingy? '

the way a learn to mod is take one item, in this instance a thruster and mess with the numbers, it could be bad, it might not be, you dont know until you test it in game, if its bad, i revert the numbers back to what they where before and try again.

in doing this i have created torpedoes that need no ammo but feed off of your ships energy bank and a thruster that trades energy usage for an increase in speed.

the point im trying to make is, if you want something done, learn for your self or ask for help, dont demand things to be done when most of these things we do not know how to do.

basically, we have to crawl before we can walk, and then walk before we can run

Wow. This is one of the stupidest posts ive seen in a while. We have made astounding process in the few days weve had fl. And yet you complain that were not all working together? Each contributing member of this board adds something to the overall knowledge.

I think that Admin should close this topic.

We're working along great here. everyone is coming up with new things every day. There is no set goal right now, because we have to figure a lot of stuff out.

We have to dismantle the game first before we can build upon it. Don't worry, it'll come. Its not like we even have an SDK to start changing things in the engine. Alll we've got are .dll resources, some ini triggers, and models/textures/images/voice that we're playing with, and no real way to deliver those via a multiplayer server.

I think we have come a long way since the release of FL

BoP, use *YOUR* brain.

The idea of making "1 big mod" is utterly idiotic.

Did you even read what I said? People have completely different ideas for how they want to make the game.

How can you combine a mod that makes the game easier with a mod that makes it harder?

Some people want to make combat faster, some want to make it slower.

You cannot combine these things. They contradict each other.

The whole idea of a "mega mod" would result in the worst mod ever. It would be a hodgepodge of totally unassociated garbage.

Every mod community has a few people with this same hare brained idea "Hey! Lets all work on 1 giant mod together". What they really mean is "hey! get to work you lazy bums and make the super cool mod I want!"

Fortunately, such people usually don't know jack about modding so while you have to suffer through their foolish ideas, at least you don't have to worry about their crappy mod submissions.

> calm down

It is always the biggest twinks who tell you to "calm down" when you react to their arrogant, selfish behavior. "Calm down" is the mantra of trolls who get upset when people don't swallow their BS.

Typical.

> im just trying to motivate

Who asked for your motivation?

We don't need your motivation and we definitely don't need your selfish demands.

So far a lot of great people have been figuring things out and sharing information. Piece by piece we are deciphering the miasma of .ini files and .dlls.

You can either read through the forums, learn, and then try to help, or you can go away. Your choice.

Yes there is alot that can be done for this game, but I agree with everyone else 1 big mod would be a horrible way to go. I am looking at the little picture and have managed to puzzle my way through several mods. By Those "1000 projects" are 1000 ideas that people can choose whether they want to use them or not. With the help of some really great modders I ahave been able to mod the little things that drive me nuts: ships speed, ships price, buying locations, armor, shields, and weapon hardpoints. I Have already used the knowledge I gained here to make my own system, it doesn't work properly but hey trial and error. If you want a 1 big mod do it yourself, if you can't or aren't able then don't complain because our little projects aren't going the way you want. I agree with everyone else, this has to be the stupidest thread yet and the moderators should delete it.
