My ideal death system:
I think a player should have to pay the resale value of their ship every time they die, or some percentage of the ship's cost. If they don't have enough, they go to zero credits and the ship starts out with hull damage (got it from a used ship salesman, junk yard, whatever). This is an incentive to stay alive, but the price of death also increases as you improve your ship, like higher taxes for the upper class.
Would be great if the remainder of the resale value were a loan that had to be paid in a certain amount of game time, or the bounty hunters come after you and kill you again But I'm almost sure this is outside the range of .ini and .dll haxing.
