Death Penalty: Too Low?

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Thu Mar 13, 2003 11:35 pm

My ideal death system:

I think a player should have to pay the resale value of their ship every time they die, or some percentage of the ship's cost. If they don't have enough, they go to zero credits and the ship starts out with hull damage (got it from a used ship salesman, junk yard, whatever). This is an incentive to stay alive, but the price of death also increases as you improve your ship, like higher taxes for the upper class.

Would be great if the remainder of the resale value were a loan that had to be paid in a certain amount of game time, or the bounty hunters come after you and kill you again But I'm almost sure this is outside the range of .ini and .dll haxing.

sound good if it where multiplay only

Of course it's multiplayer only. In single player the death penalty is death. There is no respawn.

the loan is a good idea, especially the bounty hunters, if they could be players it would be even better.

This won't be popular i'm sure but:

Dead is Dead. You die, you start over.

At very minimum, You should be rescued by a "medical" ship and taken to the nearest base... where you can BUY yourself a new ship with the credits you have saved up (Credits are obviously not phyical in this game, but an electronic thing.)

Humblehawk, the one minor caveat with the nearest-base thing is that many times, the nearest base doesn't even sell a ship.

That's why I was saying just the purchase cost of your ship and loadout should be deducted from your wallet, as a form of automatic replacement.

I would love to be able to do this.
