In my opinion, it's a total waste of 3 hours...
sounds more like a cheat than a mod to me

the deadliness-performance delta among ship weapons, ship classes, and ship weapons' classes (quite a mouthful) varies WAY too much as it is. With a level 8 shield, you're pretty much invincible anywhere in Liberty or Bretonia. I think we need to make everything WEAKER to even things out (or just make weapon classes above leve 7 really expensive), and this mod tips the balance way, WAY too far.

this is not about balance, its for people who want to play the single player again but have the best fighter and weapons available from the very start.

LOL. Not only did you totally waste your time on this (Because frankly, you've got to be pretty stupid to want this thing.), but the Anubis isn't even the best ship there IS. It's obvious you never played past SP...

I think the alternating caps in his username give him away. What do you guys think?

Well it's a good way to learn how to edit, and I can't wait to download this thing any have some fun with it.

ReVeNaNt, I think what you have done is commendable, I really do. Just be careful with it. I have visions of people's horror stories when they've overclocked CPU's and Video cards and found out the hard way it can and does fry some very expensive pieces of electronics. Take it slowly, we're in no rush!

Modding certainly isn't an exact science, it's full of experiementation, great rewards and sometimes confuzing results. Most of all it's fun as heck to be creative! But typical (and safe) experimetation has always been the tried and true method of set incremental increases. These steps are done slowly, tested, retested and results confirmed before moving to the next level. There is bound to be a point of deminishing return on performace verses stability.

I'm no expert in the field of modding, far from it, but my words above have some merit and I wish you well, just be careful. Nothing on this earth is unbreakable! Keep up the good work ReVeNaNt, just be careful!

ReVeNaNt,
Mods are not for everyone. I think you have made a killer ship. I am sure it would be fun to drive around and kick b&tt!! hehe

Keep it up.. You might end up with some wild stuff that lots of players will want.

My Anubis Beats his Anubis:

I can mount 13 guns total.
I have the agility of a light fighter.
My turret can mount missiles and fire them in any direction.

=)

My point is...

Did you know that you can alter the weapon type for any hardpoint in the shiparch.ini file? You can take a slot that used to be a turret, and instead let it fire regular guns or even missiles - but it still operates like a turret! Think torpedoes are useless? I do - so make em an extra Class 10 gun mount!

(The anubis also has a 3 "hidden" extra hardpoints, HpWeapon08 and HpTorpedo02 and HpTorpedo03. And since the extra torp mounts are under the wings, they fire backwards - so it's like having 3 turrets... although mine fires missiles)

PS - Now before you flame me - remember this is the editing forum and I did (eventually) pass along some useful info.

Hi ReV. Good work on the ship, but I agree with Stinger, we have to be careful when we change things like this. MP is still a bit sketchy at the moment, and someone could download it and totally dominate a PvP server. It could also cause untold problems with the game... I've experimented with changing values to be insanely high myself, and it is somewhat dangerous, especially making it readily available to even inexperienced users.

Post Sat Mar 08, 2003 9:18 am

wont work in MP since he changed values thats checked.
Ive discovered that the only 'real' things u can change in MP and still work is where stuff is bought, but u cant change for example the strengh of a ship and it will work in mp... Or will it?

Ive actually never tried this, and i dont plan too.

I was messing around with shiparch myself and found that it stays the same in MP. I was on a coop server when i found this so everything was cool with PVP but the extra cargo room really helped me lvl really fast. I shared the creds so I didn't feel quilty. Be very careful if you have modded your SP and go to MP most if not all the changes should still be there.

ViceGrips

Post Sat Mar 08, 2003 2:05 pm

all i mod in SP is one ship, so i dont have a mess on my hands, however having frieghters able to move like fighters maybe a bad thing ( for pirates anyway )

Post Sat Mar 08, 2003 2:47 pm

Shure about that ViceGrips, i meant without changing any other files xept the client ones...
