My new ULTIMATE weapons/ship MOD

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Post Sat Mar 08, 2003 5:34 pm

Problem is twofold: technical you might increase a setting that works at first sight, but create stability problems none the less... I know making weapons more powerfull increases the number of packets send to and from a MP server and can break things with the physics system and/or collisions.

Also it might even CRASH the multiplayer server, so be carefull... I'm considering making some sort of testing procedure for the mods... SO we are sure they work 100% before we make them "official"

Ive been trying mods on my server and changing values on a ship will make the server crash if another player enter the systems and asks "what kind of ship do you have?" (client-client) if now the other puter discovers that something has been changed the modded client will crash and burn Atleast thats whats happend to me when ive been testing stuff... Sometimes it has even crashed in start when leaving manhattan with a modded ship.

Calm down people. Christ. Didn't i specifically mention this is just a "fun" mod for SINGLE PLAYER ONLY? Also, i find it very immature of you people to bash me and make fun of me for doing a mod just for fun and experimentation calling it a total waste of time. I highly disagree, as thanks to this mod i now know how to find specific ships and modify all of their characterisics, i now know how to find specific weapons and modify them at will, i now know how to make any base sell any equipment i want, i now know how to alter wepon mounts on any ship so they can fire any weapon i want, etc. With this mod i was able to devise a spreadsheet with all the ship names, weapon names, misc equipment names in correlation to the ini files making any editing 100 times easier since you wont have to drudge through the huge ini files not knowing what id code is what weapons or what id code is what ship. Total waste of time? I think not. Also, since you've been soo kind to me in this thread (note the sarcasm) DO NOT write me begging for this .ini sorting program i put together.

This will be my last post on this forum, since you obviously can't introduce new ideas without being hated on. Oh well.

Peace

What the hell is wrong with everyone? I can't even think of anything to say that ReVeNaNt didn't in his last post, so just read that a few times and pretend I said something similar.

ReVeNaNt, only a very few people flamed you. Most people (including the moderators) were complimentary.

I think the mod community, and you, would benefit if you shared any tools or documentation you devised with everyone.

The work you do could be built upon by someone else, and then that person might solve something YOU wanted solved.

It works that way in mod communities.

Sure, there are people who will flame anything, but you have to ignore those types.

ReVeNaNt, if anything I said made you angry, I don't get it? I just tried to point out that we might get technical hard to identify issues with changing the ships performance outside the envelope of the settings from DA.

Just for test purposes I moded an Anubis to the exact smae specs. that he did. Outside of a little ****iness when in cruise mode it ran just fine and I am not even running the game on a high end system. A if you are watching I too would like the .ini sorting program you developed, it would be a tremendous help. ReVeNaNt please upload the file. If no one else can use it I sure can.

Behold the power of flames.

Or rather, the lack thereof. Don't any of you people think before insulting others? I mean, seriously, this was quite an achievement, even if it's not done exactly the way most of you would approve. But no, a few uncareful, insulting statements were tossed around and the ones responsible for the inflamatory statements might have lost us a good modding tool.

Happy now? Bah.

IF you're still around, Revenant, it would be nice to have this tool. As others have said, just ignore the flamers (and, I'd like to add; Don't feed the trolls). If not, well, w'e've lost a potential modder and a potential tool.

i think some of the posts were kind of harsh :/

but yes the ship is overly powered, fun for a few minutes i suppose, but then would get dull and take some of the fun out of it :/ (i played with an overly powered anubis on the demo)

but its definately great that people out there are learning how to do change stuff, extra modding crew :p at this rate there will be a fair few people..... teams will start to be made.... and some nice stuff come out of it (come on star wars mod \o/ :p)
