Ship mopd betatest server online now

Server currently up at Ship Balance mod 1.0 / 24.68.102.77

Main changes are
- Light Fighters Beefed up
- Some fighters have larger cargo capacity
- All freighter's hold spaces reduced
- Top-end ships weakened

Please come help betatest, I'll be working on the mod in the background most of the week. Stil to come:

- Ship Descriptions Updated
- Ship Price Ajustment
- Economic Balancing
- Faction System Overhaul

Why on earth are you reducing frieghter cargo sizes? So NO ONE wants to be a transporter? If anything, make them bigger.

Why on earth would you make freighter's carry more, what so you could make a million a run? How cool would that be, I could reach 38th level in... about an hour then, FUN! Blitz is on the right path.

Yeah I have, 32 players and I never got jumped by a player running from planet houston to freeport.... 8 I think it is. If you're an idiot running cargo in new york ya deserve to die on a pvp server. The world is so big it's easy to find good out of the way runs where you won't see anyone, especially if you get on the good side of some pirates.

Heh. Everyone is bitter about freighter hold reductions. Guess they don't really understand. A balance mod isn't about adding bigger and badder stuff, it's about fine-tuning the game.

Just an example of a fine-tuned ship from the mod:

Crusader (Bretonia Heavy Fighter)

5400 Armor
60 Cargo Capacity
5/7 Power
4 class 7 hardpoints
2 class 6 hardpoints

Wanna run cargo? Try that one on for size. If you wanna fly battleships and run around in 40000 cargo transports, look elsewhere =(

If you reduce the cargo on the fighters then that's fine, but when you get to the point where they haul the same amount that's pretty pointless.

Blitz, giving the freaking HF's 80 in cargo is _NOT_ finetuning the game, i guess you kinda missed that point since the Rhino got 80 in cargo space... leave cargo space on freighers normal, or beef it up to around 200 on each.

like someone said in another "ship balancing" post (to which i agreed) - reducing the freighters' cargo space isn't the answer, lowering their shields and weaponry so that they're more vulnerable is.

if you lower their carrying capacity it's like you're saying "hell, those cargo-carriers are getting too much money, they shouldn't be used at all" <nerf>.

if you made them a flimsy POS but with the same cargo-carrying capacity, and made them rely upon a fighter escort that someone could provide in the new fighters, then i think that would be a step in the right direction.

i agree completely, if you reduce cargo size it doesnt make sense since the ships are designed to cary cargo, however if they are more vulnerable then it would make it harder to transport without being completely impossible to do so. if its got the same cargo space as a high end heavy fight then whats is the point?

make them slower

top speed about 50, with ab 100, cruise speed 150

this would made cargo runs alot harder, if you mod aswell the factions (else its still to easy cause you are always friendly)

make them a little slower... but not really cruisespeed 150 more like 250, since otherwise fighers could boost after them...

Okay you freighter nazis, I've had enough. You tards need to go read my other thread in the SPOILER section. It's titled "How to get a class 10 ship in 2 hours and 49 minutes". It kinda shows why freighters, and specifically large freighters are a problem. If you still think freighters carrying 275 cargo is fine, then go read that.

If after reading that, you still thin freighters should be LARGER orleft alone, then I got good answer for you. Don't play my mod?

And as for the "Just make them weaker" argument. Faction tricks can make you immune to all attacks 2 minutes into the game. Taking armor and weapons off freighters won't do a damn thing because players already know how to get around the faction system. Until someone figures out how to stop people from making friends with everyone, there really isn't a better way to nerf freighters.
