Holst/Wagner Music Mod... anybody interested?

I was bored one night, so I decided to play around with Freelancer's music files. Using the excellent tutorial by Chips (Thanks!) and the suggested software ("dbPowerAMP", I decided to add some custom music. I thought that Chips' use of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" would provide an interesting juxtaposition to the action in FL, so I decided to replace some of the music with this track. In order to further add constrast, I also utilised Holst's "The Planet Mars" for battle music, and it works out quite well. I then created a .flmod file for practice, and thus I now have a mod. Now that I have finished my rather lengthy anecdote, I'll get to the point; is anybody interested in downloading this mod? I just wanted to see if there was any interest as I created it for fun, not for distribution, and whether or not it would be worth submitting to TLR.

Regards,

Oghma.

PS. Chips, I hope you don't mind my appropriation of your choice of music (ie. "Ride of the Valkyries" for use in this mod, but I thought that it would be amusing when fighting Nomads around Toledo, etc.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, it is appreciated . There is however, one TINY problem, which ironically has to do with size. The tracks that have been converted into 80Kbs, 22KHz, 2 channel .wav files make the mod nearly four megabytes in size. This is not that large but for modem users like myself, it may be a bit on the large side. The main reason that the files are so large is because they are the complete tracks. Maybe I should edit them to only include the "good stuff". Any suggestions on some good (free) editing software? Anyone?

Oghma.

Hey, i'm all for it. Also, please check out my thread about a Wing Commander music mod and vote to support it if you will. I'm very much interested in the idea of these music mods as it could completely change the mood of different parts of freelancer

Wagner and Holst? You're a weird one... But it would need some more systems, with darker atmosphere. Put there those shivans and Rheinland Military, let we see thíose valkyries riding

WingC3, I already HAVE posted in your thread. Some people just don't check their mail...

Chips, I WAS thinking of adding some more music. Planet Jupiter IS a good idea, I should really examine my brother's enormous classical CD collection in more depth !

Caid. What can I say? Of course I'm weird, most modders are . Still, if you want the truth, I can't STAND any music apart from a bit of Weird "Al" Yankovic (for the satire), and the odd bit of classical. Contemporary music gives me a headache. I've always maintained that my mother must have dropped a radio on my head when I was a child .

Oghma.

PS. <PLUG> Check out my "Freelancer Reloaded" Mod. No new music, but some good stuff. PLEASE wait for version 1.1 (already submitted to TLR), 1.0 has a few bugs. </PLUG>

OKay - here is another one of my favs - the william tell overture for the hovis race - now that is good fun..............makes it.......better

Here in missions 5 is something for you:
[Trigger
nickname = start_init
system = Br05
Cnd_True = no_params
Act_PlayerCanDock = false
Act_PlayMusic = music_br_space, music_br_danger, music_br_battle, music_race_start, 1, false

and also:
[Trigger
nickname = tr_theyreoff
Cnd_True = no_params
Act_Ethercomm = announcer, 216608, Player, DX_M06_0220_ANNOUNCER, -1, pl_male2_head, pi_pirate2_body
Act_GiveObjList = dexter, ol_pedaldown
Act_ActTrig = tm_fail
Act_ActTrig = dst_g1
Act_DeactTrig = dst_jumpthegun
Act_DeactTrig = dst_jumpthegunfail
Act_DeactTrig = pjh_dexter
Act_ActTrig = wt_bool_2ndrace_on
Act_ActTrig = wt_bool_2ndrace_off
Act_PlayMusic = music_br_space, music_br_danger, music_br_battle, music_race_loop, 2, false

Now you know there are TWO tracks- I just renamed my new music to meet those two Music_race_loop and music_race_start to have some nice sounds to fly to....... - now it should be music_race_loop - but i never bothered to test it, i just enjoyed me flyin

Someone else at last, I have most of Gustav Holst, The Planets scatterd around the systems, as well as 'little night music' and 'jupiter/requiem' by mozart.

I would be interested in the download to get the thoughts of someone else on the track/system thing.

I also have 'Run lola run' running track 1 for danger, but unfortunately i don't have any things that can edit the music to just the part i want for danger, and then i could also edit down another track for battle - so unfort i have to fly round with the whole tracks playing. This does mean that when i have battle going though - it neve lasts long enough for Ride of the Valkryies to get past the most famous 'start' bit - whereas fying to classical in space is just great

*edit* - oh, and Strauss's Zarathustra for my menu screen. NOw i REALLY need an editor to get it past the very quite build up that the game has it set to unfort, either that or a way of boosting volume for it to be loud enough to hear the darned track. For those who don't know - that is 2001 space oddessy music - and it is perfect for menu screen

I'll tell you what. I have work to do in the near future, but I will add some more music to the mod when I can, as per your suggestions. I will then post a link to the mod, and you guys can play with it and release something a little more polished. I have only made one mod so far, and I think that something as important as the music should be handled by someone with a little more experience. I am willing to offer suggestions, feedback or other assistance, though.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em comin' .

Oghma

If you find that ancient battlesong of Husites, "Ktoz jsou Bozi bojovnici" (Who are warriors of the God), in mp3, it would be a very nice addon. I could not make my husite mod for Medieval TW because I had not it.

Mmm, I can't seem to find that particular piece of music in my brother's collection Caid, but I have a consolation prize. The Alpha version of the "Freelancer Classical Music Mod" has been completed. It features extracts from;

-Holst's "The Planet Mars".
-Holst's "The Planet Jupiter".
-Stravinsky's "The Blackamoor".
-Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries".

I had a couple of other tracks but I couldn't seem to find any appropriate places for them. The link is below. I do not wish to inflict in upon TLR until it is complete .

PS. I have never edited music before so I don't know how good it is. It sounds ok though. Please give me some feedback. You can be brutally honest. I can take it .

for basic editing mp3's and other music files try the trial version of:

Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer

It's fully functional, just limited to a time period.
You can combine tracks and cut them however you want. In this manner you could make one really long track of a bunch of songs or whatever for your listening pleasure.
