I think what giskard means is that it would have been nice if you'd have written an email to the people in the letter with something like "I've just received a mail from MS LEgal department, because we have some of you material in our mod they think you are a pertner of us and will write you an email too".
Now you probably had other things on your head and were more occupied with inner team "what are we gonna do now" stuff...
