Ship Icons anyone??

The general place to discuss MOD''ing Freelancer!

Ship Icons anyone??

Okay, I would but, a) I don't have any progs that can do it, b) I wouldn't have a god damned clue how to either!!

Basically - am making a mod.....like everyone else these days, when fustration as i looked at my 20 or so extra FL ships included all had the transport icon. It got me thinking........is there anyone out there who has icons for other ships? Or even just a couple more icons made for different types in general??

These are the ones I, and i would place money on the fact that TONS of other people would also want, am after.......do they exist? Does anyone have enough time to start making some?? As practice for your own ships if nothing else!!!

Capital Class Ships
----------------------

Rheinland Gunboat
Rheinland Cruiser
Rheinland Battleship
Kusari Gunboat
Kusari Destroyer
Kusari Gunboat
Bretonian Gunboat
Bretonian Destroyer
Bretonian Battleship
Liberty Cruiser
Liberty Dreadnought
Liberty Osiris

Transports and others
--------------------------

Transport
Large Transport
Train
Large Train
Miner
Repair Ship
Armored Transport
Luxury Liner
Prison Liner
Lifter
CSV

Last Ones
------------

Nomad Gunboat
Nomad Battleship
Nomad Fighter

Okay - there we have it, the list of ship icons that I think nearly everyone would love to see. Are there any people out there willing to have a go, or any of the ships studios with some time to make some whilst cranking out others for their ships? Hell, just a couple would be really really nice, but one of each would be truly fantastic - and a bloody fine mod for everyone!!!

Who is up for it? - or who agrees that it would be nice?! Common people - band together - and i will release all these ships with the icons for everyone, and ids cards for each ship! In fact, it will all be in the original ids info slots, so that people could use the files as a mod starting point, as well as just for anyone to enjoy!! COMMON COMMON COMMON!!!!

Well, i could probably make you ones for the Kusari destroyer and the Luxury liner if you tell me what file format they need to be in, and what size the picture needs to be!

I could probably even make most of the other ones too by this weekend, all I need is the above info

WOW - they are as per the ones in the following file:

DATA\Equipment\models\Commodities\NN_icons

The files are in the 3db format? I have no idea what that is, or how to open them/make them! They are all about 7k in file size, but as for dimensions of the pics - no idea - i cannot open them. IN the game though, they fill the little ship icon space up when buying a ship.
You can check them by putting them in the above folder, then linking it to a ships package in the goods.ini file:
Like this example here:-
[Good
nickname = lf_hull
category = shiphull
ship = li_fighter
price = 22000
ids_name = 12001
item_icon = Equipment\models\commodities\nn_icons\li_fighter.3db

The item_icon line is the one i am after - so this is the patroits icon. Take a peek at some in their already, and you can test your products by slipping its name in there instead of li_fighter.3db
so you would have:
item_icon = Equipment\models\commodities\nn_icons\ku_dest.3db
as a kusari destroyer (if you named it like that) picture showing whilst buying the patroit!. I am affraid that is all i know, as i cannot model, draw or anything of use to you in this area!! I know nothing about these files!

If you could make them it would be sooooooooooo terrific!!!!
If you have a sample, or when done whatever - [email protected] - and i will then put em into a mod for everyones pleasure!!!

I just copied a 3db file from other ship.

Made screenshot in Milkshape and converted to a tga file in photoshop.
Resized to 64pixel x 64pixel.

Then opened in UTFeditor and made some name changes and imported the new shipname.tga file. It looks just like a mat file.
So I have no idea what else this is used for besides icon! Anybody know?

Unfort i don't have photoshop, or milkshape anymore for that matter! I personally cannot do any of this, but i am very very eager to get new icons. It would be really nice for any mod to have these - that little touch that brings the mods up a notch!

I took a screenshot of the menu, created ship icons, sized them to 50 X 50 pixels (i think that is the correct size to go WITHIN the blue border). However, converting them to a .3db file is the next task. Anyone have a plugin for photoshop?

BTW- chips, i sent you two pics through email. They are in jpeg format.

know of a good image/file hosting site? i want to be able to post links to these pics so everyone can use them.....

Convert them to what?

TGA files, 3db file or what are you asking?

Post Thu Oct 02, 2003 2:45 pm

3db please! that would be great! My milkshape skills are not good at all, so trying to convert them myself has proven to be a waste of time. I guess Ill stick with making the icons

You don't actually "convert" anything to a 3db file, you just use the UTF editor and import your graphic image into the 3db file. With the UTF editor examine some of the existing ones and you'll be able to do the same in a few minutes, pretty straight forward.

Post Thu Oct 02, 2003 3:53 pm

erm - so if you copied the patriots 3db file, renamed it to ku_dest or whatever you like, then import it to UTF - u can kinda 'mount' your little jpeg image into the 3db ?
is that kinda the idea here?

Actually Victor - if you have time for it, could you explain how? What type of file you need to start with cos i see tga there, but not anything else - then do you highlight, click import and then select the picture you have? Is that all there is too it? or is there some more?

Was already done in tutorial Here

But I have pasted the info below:

Making the Ship's Commodity Button

Step 23: In the UTF Editor, hit the "Open File..." button.
Go to your "Freelancer\DATA\EQUIPMENT\MODELS\COMMODITIES\NN_ICONS" directory.
Now open the "bh_elite.3db" file. This file is the file that is used for the icons when purchasing your ship.<-- (there are others available)
Expand the tree, and go to the "material library" node. This seems to be optional, but I highly recommend it anyways; Rename the "SHIP_bh_elite" node to "SHIP_group_shipname".
Underneath it, edit the "Dt_name" node in string mode. I recomend replacing the text with "group_shipname_icon.tga", as it will be unique.<--any TGA filename will work

Step 24: Open the Texutre Library Node and rename the node beneath it to "group_shipname_icon.tga".
As with the MAT file, select the "MIP0" node, and hit import. This time, however, load the "shipname-commodity.tga" we made eariler.

Step 25: Save the file in the "Freelancer\DATA\EQUIPMENT\MODELS\COMMODITIES\NN_ICONS" directory as "group_shipname.3db" and close the UTF Editor.

I copy my 3db file first so as to leave original intact.

and thats all there is to it.

I still do not know what the other mesh info in this 3db file is for, maybe some else knows?
