It was the fact that parts of this are in the current game, and parts must have been in the released betas that made me think that the entire thing could be reconstructed.
Part of what happened with Microsoft was the decision to release the game on one CD instead of two. They cleaned out a lot of code to make sure it would fit.
Still, it would be nice to restore it. Unfortunately, unlike the Starlancer Beta, the ND did not expire with release, etc. It appears that the EULA blocks those with the code from using it to mod, though since you would still need a valid FL game to use the code, it should be possible. I haven't reviewed the legal work though, so ...
But, if you want the stuff back, I'd suggest:
One, look for code reuse between Starlancer and Freelancer
Two, look for beta releases that impliment this code
Three, pick up the code tag ends (e.g. the wireframe, etc.)
Four, start coding <g>
