This project sounds great and nearly exactly like the mod i am working with
I started rebalancing the ships in the following way:
Light Fighters are the Interceptors, fast (avg 100), weak shields, average weapons, and Cruise disruptors, they are the only ships that can stop the enemy, so every team should have at least one
Heavy Fighters are the main workhorses,average speed (avg 90) average shields, strong weapons, just what it takes to finish the enemy off
VHF are in my modification Bombers, they are slow (avg 80), have strong shields and strong weapons. They have no Thruster, but they do have Afterburners
Freighters are just that, freighters. They are the only one with a decent cargo hold (Fighters are in the range 10-20), slow (avg 50), heavy shields, weak weapons, no thruster, heavy armor
And Civilian Ships (Starflier, Startracker) those are what cars are in our life, fast, but the rest is weak (cargo hold is above the fighters)
All ship prices are way higher
