Abandon ships...

ok, so i'm a big n00b. I downloaded the demo last night and beat it then went right out and bought it today... i even have another that i ordered on ebay i just couldnt wait for... welll... i'll sell it. I am about level 7 with a Defender.

so, I heard people talk about ships laying around that you can salvage special parts from and all that... well.. I see these big scary clouds with lots of rocks and i hate them... (this game rules by the way). I dont want to get spoiled here, I just want a hint in the right direction... i need a yes or no... can you find ships floating about in these clusters of asteroids?

ok next... In california there is an asteroid field with a wierd canister in it... there are a couple.. i tried shooting and it opened some little mechanism.. but it didnt release nothing, and i couldnt salvage ntohing... I dont know what i am doing, LOL!!! oh, and there is that abandon science centre in the bottem left of new york... whats up with that thing? if its something big then dont tell me, but if there is no importance then tell me that. LOLZ.

Yes in some fields you can find wrecks but their not floating

And for the abandoned station in New york you'll need to play the storyline in the full version to understand it

What do the wrecks look like if they aren't floating? are they attached to asteroids? I just don't know what to look for. Do you just blow them up and tractor goods or what? explain it to me please...

Another question, just been reading up a little... The 'Dagger' is also sold in new york... its a light fighter, but holds more cargo and has more armor than the defender that i have.. I also assume its quicker, at the expense of 1 gun point...
Is it a good upgrade or not? or should I just wait till I get a more advanced fighter accross the galaxy?

Hey man! I'd just like to say, Welcome to the Universe! anywayz...A good strategy for finding these wrecks (if you don't want to be told where to look) is to fly a pattern. wrecks are found in high danger areas, e.g. asteroid clouds and nebulea w/ reduced sensor efficiancy, radiation damage, and lots of dangerous criminal factions. Bring lots of bats and bots.

You know how to set waypoints, right? just set a zigzaging path through any danger zone you encounter. keep your eyes on the nav map, and if you com near a wreck it shoul pop up w/ a bright red cross.

Also, ONLY FIRE ONE GUN at a time when you see the wreck, so that you don't destroy anything on accident. its a good idea to have an empty hold, too.

I just finished doing those icy mission ones, with all the green guys, that was awesome! the best battle yet!... man this game looks good at 1600x1200 res.

thanks for the advice on the wrecks.

I can't wait to get a new ship, i got my defender all done up right now with the class 3 engines/shields, and class 3 weapons... the GOOD ones... I'm not sure what my next ship will be, but I dont want something slow.

Alright, so using the zig-zag tactic i found 2 wrecks! YAY!

I found the aggressor, which didn't seam to have anything good on board.

the other thing i found was Liberty navy Partol 27. I looted that one for some obsolete weapons as well... but there were 2 crosses there... i could only see one wreck... is there another?

The Patrol 27 wreck is actually 3 wrecked ships, all with same equipment.

The easy way to get to all the Patrol wrecks is to use your targeting thingy. You know, the thing at the bottom-left corner of the screen? Can't remember what its called. Anywayz, just switch it to All Objects or something like that and you can scroll through the list till you see the wrecks. then just select and Go To... My problem was that i kept going to the same one, so what i did was drain the health of each one i went to, so when the little arrow on the screen pops up, i could see if i had already been there or not. Hope this helps!

You can also click on the red X on the nav map and, go to, then click on the next red X and so on to get them all in the area if your enemies don't find you first.

Bats and bots be damned, Your Dead !

Also, you can sometimes buy wreck location data from people in bars - this will give you exact coordinates on your navigation map.
