After The Nomads?

I completed the big suck-nomads-into-wormhole mission and yay the universe is safe...

I completed enough runs to get me to level 24 .. and I'm basicly wondering is the game (story mode) over?

I did a little reading and it apears theres some better ships and what-not to the point of the 30's level. But so what? If there is more to it, when will it start up?

The story mode is over, but the game is not finished yet.

You now get to do as the name suggests "FREELANCER", go and explore the universe, find every system, ship and weapon. After you get bored with that then try the online scene, there's plenty of servers to choose from and then you can try a mod to give a different outlook on the game.
