I believe a tool was recently made available to assist with just such situations.

It is hard to fly with turkeys when you soar with eagles.

The tool's called HardCMP... and it's easy and awesome... just search from the main News page and you'll find it

Email it to me.
Along with a list of Hardpoints you want added.
And a list of where you want them.
If you can make some screenshots, and mark on them where you want engine(s), thrusters, guns, torpedo, cruise-disrupter, shield, scanner, tractor, shield, headlight(s), running lights, and docking lights, it would help alot.

ive actually found adding hardpoints usind Hardcmp to be a major pia(pain in ass)

Post Thu Dec 09, 2004 2:53 pm

Uh... if you're finding that a pain, then you're going to find coding ships even worse... sorry, but this is ... work, y'know? Personally, I think HardCMP is really easy to use, compared to all of the other stuff I've had to learn how to do...

the hards part is the orientation #s and the #s that define exactly where it is.
the rest is easy, i can see that.

Is there a way to make the hardpoints smaller in Fl? In other words... i wanted to have signifigantly smaller models.

The size of the cubes in HardCMP has nothing to do with the actual size of the hardpoints. They're tiny, and invisible in the game.

To make tiny ships... is very easy. Simply make your ships at full size, place the hardpoints... and then use FLModel Tool to resize the ships to be smaller. The hardpoints that you've made in HardCMP will shrink along with the rest of the ship, and will stay in the same (relative) positions

But keep several things in mind:

1. If you make tiny ships, then you're going to need to make tiny weapons, or use my infamous "invisa-gun", which is a gun that's ... you guessed it... invisible. I am putting out a low-poly version of this gun for the Beta of Warriors of the Sky, which will get done at some point in the near future... but really, all you need is the current version, which is invisible and works just fine. Go download the mod and you can find the model in the Equipment folder.

2. Tiny ships will not be able to use the shots used by regular FL ships- the ALE files are a set size, which is quite large. And we don't know how to shrink them yet. So you'll have to use Beamspears, which can be very tiny (I actually had to make mine a little bigger after the first 2 Alphas of WOS, because they were too hard to see).

3. Tiny ships may look pretty funky on the radar, which doesn't scale below a certain point.... in short, you'll have a big HUD marker for a tiny ship near the middle. This could get a little strange... and I'm not sure if it can be fixed, as the HUD positions are hard-coded, I think.
