Idea for Storywriter and Modder''s

Im not a story writer or a Modder, but something has sprung to mind.

Do you know how the intro movie to Freelancer explains that once upon a time, there was 2 factions, the Coalition and the Alliance. Both of which were locked in constant battle over planets within Earths Solar System and in a desperate struggle to survive, the Alliance sent the sleeper ships to Sirius in the hope that they could start again..

From that point on, we hear nothing of either the Coalition and the Alliance, but lets suppose for a moment that the Coalition never went away.. lets imagine that they mined the natural resources of Earths solar system dry and in a desperate struggle to survive they sent their own set of sleeper ships.

The Coalition didnt pick Sirius, they picked a different system very close by though and without even knowing it, both the Alliance and the Coalition were living parallel to each other but completly unaware of each others presence.

Its possible.... Suppose there was a worm hole hidden somewhere linking both systems together...

I would like to see a story based on that idea, would be nice to see a MOD team take such a story and work with it.

that sounds like a great new story line, and a good way of adding multiple house's ( Factions ) without having to explain a sudden influx of many new alien species . Parallel development would also handle issues with why do alien ships support human pilots or tech being used in Human ships ect. save a lot of story inconsistancies.

Way to think good idea

actually sorry to disapoint you but apparently how the story goes the nomads came shortly after the coation began their seige on pluto and the nomads blew up the sun which created a massive shockwave which destroyed almost everything and left pluto nearly dead, but apparently only one person survived and flew to the cononys and warned them about what had happened, but still your idea would make a EXCELLENT idea for a "what if" story

I thought that idea was scrapped. The "Death of Sol", not Parallel universes.

The nomads destroying earth was aborted. The reason? If one nomad battleship could destroy Sol then there wouldn't really be any point to the rest of the game if the nomads were that powerful. So the way i see it, the coalition is there to be used should someone so please....

There are several stories that reintroduce the Coalition. I myself have thought of a story where the Coalition is reintroduced, but I have shelved it for the time being.

I wouldn't pursue this. Simply based on the fact that the Return of the Coalition is the second most tried, tested, and therefore tedious plotline to every fanfic on this bloody site.

Just my critical eye, once again. Still, try to think of something outside the box of the "Return" storylines.

i have a good idea for what happens to eath and i will impliment it in my story
but there wont really be much of a coalition

Come on wilde, I havent heard a good Coallition story in a long time. Besides You don't have to read it if you don't want too.

You know why? They all end up being bilge. And the same bilge, repeated like a mantra over and over again. Christ! Think of something ELSE to write about.

What's to say this wouldn't be the one ? It's not that big a deal, anyway.

@wilde

I agree with you to a certain degree. If someone can create something original from what we have (most logical step for a writer is to, at somepoint, refer or go back to the coalition if they are writing about events from Freelancer) then it could have potential.

I would love to try my hand at writing about the Coalition in some way, although I can foresee an incredibly hard job to make it a success!

Would the Coalition (comprised of which 'contemporary Earth nations / cultures'?) still have a similar kind of society to that of Sirius (which, imho is still quite democratic and dare I say, capitalist)? Or would it have a much more dictatorial, militaristic way of life?

I can see parallels between some nations today that bear resemblance (won't mention any here because that would infer political discussion) and could use that as a model.

The next question (and there are so many!) would be - how to introduce the Coalition to Sirius? What would happen if the Coalition (since they tried to exteminate the 'Free People' before they could launch their colony ships) discovered Sirius? How would the Sirians react?

What might be interesting perspective, is an experimental test ship jumping its way into Sirius space. The ship would be crewed by a group of Coalition pilots, scientists and fighters (with clearly differing training / conditioning) .

Of course the above assumes that Coalition society is fairly oppressive and rigid.

What would happen if the Coalition reverse-engineered the technology from the planet the original colony ships launched from, then sent several colony ships of their own to Sirius? Scary thought!

Someone collated an incredibly useful datadump of Freelancer infos and background. Anyone remember where it is?
