Whats that wilde bringing back my battle system eh?

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 5:21 am

You know why don't we just have one final massive battle set up as a war game.
All of Liberty and Bretonia's ships vs. The Corsairs, Kusari and Rheinland. No bases, no real ships killed, just a final test to see who really built the better fleet. Let the RPG go out in a grand finale. What do you think?

in a similar way to the old one

wow isn't it amazing how history repeates its self

To ww2jacob: I was looking over the rules for CYOF 3 and there are some problems with the ship stats selection. First, the BHG have good VHFs but they still are by no means equal to the Titan or the Sabre. Second, since the Corsairs and the Outcasts do posses the the best VHFs in the game they should get some kind of point bonus on their VHFs above and beyond the points they get for their faction type. Third, There is not enough variation between the faction types to accurately reflect their particular strengths and weaknesses (corporations have the exact same point totals as Houses?) Finally, you didn't provide any points for capital ships, whose customization is just as important as fighters.

I know, I'm gonna go through and tweak the rules later on today.

yup Omega Chief, I was reading over the old thread I've found some distinct nostalgia concerning the brilliance and simplicity of your battle system. Of course, it gave me an opportunity to beat you in Omega 7, but...

my alliance offer to Hispania is still in place.

VD makes a good point. The Sabre is in my opinion the best ship in the game--versatile, flexible, and powerful enough to mount Codenames. Titan's good, but it's really bloody slow. The Valkyrie, furthermore, is the best House Fighter, followed by the Crusader and Cavalier. And finally, tiny corporations such as ALG and DSE have starfliers, whereas larger corporations (Samura, IMG, GMG) fly Hawks. There needs to be a definite distinction between the two.

I went a little overboard with this but we do also need to pay attention to the enemies and allies list in FL. The Rhineland government is allied a) with its corporations, b)with its police and c) with its military. It is enemies with a) the Corsairs, b) the Outcasts, c) Unioners, d) LWB, e)Bundschuh and f) GMG. Kusari is enemies with its criminals and Rhineland, and allied with its corporations. And so forth. Everyone, by the way, is enemies with the Outcasts and Corsairs.

We should finish the rpg off in a week today. That gives everyone a chance to do everything they've planned up. Which reminds me...

100 LFs each to be deployed to Dresden and Stuttgart. 100 more to go to Sigma 13 to guard Gas Miner Naha.

Transmission to Liberty: Twice you have invaded us. Now, retribution has come from the fallen. Prepare for Battle!

All forces in New Berlin, Hamburg, and Frankfurt to attack Liberty Blockades there, using the strategies stated above. Afterwards all forces from every battle (I outway Sisko by a HUGE amount) to proceed to Bering and battle all Liberty forces there.

Could no other factions get involved? Sisko and I are pretty much evenly matched, so this is a fair war.

Rhineland turn for today:
1. 50 LFs placed in Frankfurt, 50 in Hamburg

2. I build a Two fighter shipyards, Odin and Thor, 1 to be built in Stuttgart and 1 in Dresden.
unresolved researches:
a) LF FDx2
b) LF FA x3
1 exploration

3. n/a

4. movements already stated.

5. I collect 350 credits plus 2850=3200
commodities left: 200 M/ 605 H-F/ 185 O/ 247 W/ 360 F
Ship locations:
Omicron Alpha: 135 LF wings
New Berlin: 1 battleship, 2 cruisers, 9 gunboats, 10 VHF, 20 HF, 700 LF wings
Frankfurt: 1 battleship, 2 cruisers, 5 gunboats, 10 VHF, 20 HF, 510 LF wings
Hamburg: 1 gunboat, 203 LF wings, 5 bomber wings
Stuttgart: 1 gunboat, 128 LF wings
Dresden: 102 LF wings
Germanii: 2 LF wings
Brandenburg: 2 LF wings
Sigma 13: 100 LF wings

Not entirely true Wilde. The outcasts are friendly with one faction, the junkers. In fact, the easiest way to become an outcast in the game is to first work as a junker (well attacking Corsairs will work too but that can just as easily turn into a suicide mission).

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:42 pm

hmm...yeah, but Junkers keep on stealing stuff off me or firing on me...I'm trying to get friendly with the Outcasts so I can buy a sabre and mount all the codenames I've got stockpiled...

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:50 pm

Kusari fighters are better than Bretonian....

Anyways, the Titan has better energy control and defensive systems than the Sabre, there about even. I flew the Titan for a while but then switched over to the Sabre out of boredom. BTW, all freelancer ships have equal speed.

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:55 pm

Sorry, I didn't mean to start one of these. Lancers reactor has more Titan/Sabre/Eagle arguements than you can shake a stick at and the moderators just love to pull the plug on any post that has one. Thets get off this subject now before the thread goes click again.

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 4:56 pm

Well the Eagle is the worst, its just you can get it legally. Anyone want to decide when we call hits.

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 6:42 pm

Yeah I loathe the eagle and everything of its class--especially Falcons, because the game designers had the gall to make them more expensive than a Valkyrie, my personal favorite of house ship.

The Titan is TOO heavy. that's the problem with it. I'm not talking about speed as in cruise speed or whatever, but reaction speed in battle. Patriots, for example, will turn faster than Defenders. Titans don't bloody turn in battle! Whereas Sabres, though heavy, are light enough to actually manipulate themselves in dogfights etc. And when fighting Hessians, who swivel in flight the most of any pirate faction, you need to be able to turn with them.

I know in theory Dragons and Drakes are better than Cavaliers and Crusaders, but I hate them. They're pathetically weak in truth--AND EVERY SINGLE KUSARI SHIP HAS THOSE STUPID PURPLE FINS! I almost killed myself after buying a drake...

@ Triyun, TRFL, and VD: Would one of you mind judging my battle against the Liberty blockades?

Would anyone mind defending the Eagle, the problem with Sabres and Titans
is they don't have a good enough turning rate, trust me, I've shot down plenty of hotshot Sabre pilots talking smack against my Eagle.
That's the only thing I will ever say on this subject.

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 8:29 pm

I don't really know how the system works, I never played this axis and allied game you speak of.

Post Fri Dec 10, 2004 9:08 pm

All I'm saying is you can take down ANY ship IN any ship--but you can take down Eagles in a Sabre better than you can take down Sabres in an Eagle.

Edit: I thought we were going to give jacob a break from doing battles and just use the strategy guide from the last game...
