"Switch to target" screen for custom ships

As you know, there is a button called "Swith to target" in the ship menu that lets you swith to a wireframe view of the currently selected ship. Now, I wasn't able to get this to work for my new ships and I thought that it somehow had something to do with the SUR file. But now that my ship has got one, I found out that cannot be so, for it is still not working.

Has anyone here managed to get this to work for custom ships and if so, how?

Anton knows more about it than i do, i tried and failed.its very technical, which sucks, because the concept is actually quite simple - the Vwire references high(simple) LOD's vertexes in a connect-the-dots method.Personally I would settle for being able to rename vwires so cloned ships don't lose theirs, and being able to export a simple cube to represent each ship,but oh well - it doesn't really affect gameplay its just a visual
