bl''s ship portfolio

Well now that TLR has a modelling forum thought I'd put up a kinda portfolio of all my finished works. Was bored so made thumbnails for my larger pictures (click on thumbs for 1280 x 1024) so now I can show them here without lagging all those blasted 56kers (who needs em anyways tho...)

Hopefully some of the other ship moddelers will follow suit and make a thread of their own showing all their finished models. I know there are others who have really good works, would be nice for them to exibit them in such a manner for all to see. But as for mine, here all all my finished ones.

it's always good to hear comments and crits bout ones work, even if I don't intend on going back and redoing any of these, it's good for future reference durring later designs and how one can do things better.

BL! you have mad skills! I love your models! Honestly very fresh, and inventive!

I also have a small gallery of my own work, and some of the community's as well over at Vision3d.
The site was generously hosted by DevGuy, the creator of Asgard, who also set me all up and made it look all purdy

My idea for the forums there was to be just this, a place for new modelers to learn, and show off, and ask questions and such, so swing by and check it out

Baene, BL exellent models both of you. I'm currently working on a few of my own (although not quite as good as your's!). Now the question is: while the ships themselves aren't ready as mods in and of themselves do you think there is an interest in the milkshape files? The reason I ask is that I plan on sending in my ships as I complete them as individual mods but, some for the more accomplished modders of systems and factions and whole game mods might need ships in a hurry and I don't mind them usuing mine. I'd just like to know if you think there would be an interest in them, or would it be a waste of time?

Hi black_lightning!

These ships are great. I really like them and it would be nice to have them in a downloadable shippack. So I could use some of them in the next version of my mod (The Monkeys 1.1)! I already have some ships of baene in this mod (He also made some new great models) and would like to have some of yours in my mod. This is because your ships really fit in the Freelancer universe.

Again, great work. Keep modelling!

Guys, unfortunatly, the ships black lightning made are allready in a mod. They're in the RPG mod Excelcia

I sill, as I've said before, got tos ay: Good work! I might even take up modelling again

Oh neat, a Heretic.

Well it's been a long time since I last posted in these forums... tho I still have been reading them. Finished my last final earlier today, so now have some freetime again to get back into things.

Excelcia had the unfortunancy of dying out a couple months ago, this of course means I am no longer held by my obligation to keep the ships I make strictly for that mod, meaning I can put all of these out and open to anyone to use, no point in keeping them for a discontinued project.

Now this of course brings some other questions to mind,
1st: is anyone out there even interested in them anymore? They are pretty old models now. Don't really want to put the time into making a mod of them if no one want them

2nd: If I do take the time to put them out... what would the prefered format be? I don't think many strictly ship pack mods are really played, rather they tend to be taken and merged into larger mods. I could make a working mod but odds are it's just the ships people are going to extract out and put into their own. So I could just put out the cmp and mat files for the ships, and include a txt document which has a listing of all the hardpoints on each of the ships, which would faciliate putting them into another mod.

So which is prefered? A complete working mod which people can run and play sp with? Or just putting out the cmp, mat, sur, and a txt file of the hardpoints each ship has as just the essentials for other modders to put it into their mods?

On The Excelcia forums, once ago there were pictures like these posted, and there was apic of a cool new Rheinland ship. What about that one?

I would suggest you put out a ship pack for download if you are not working on or involved in a mod that requires exclusivity of your ships.

Btw, i think that your work is outstanding.

Strail is totally right.

The models are outstanding (I personally like the bretonian ship, as it looks similar to original FL ships)!!!

So it would be great to have them in a downloadable shippack. I would really like to use some of the models in the next version of my mod (The Monkeys 1.2)!

Are you still making ships?

Post Mon Dec 05, 2005 9:37 pm

Um... these posts were a year old, dude. What do you think? I haven't seen anything with BL's name on it in quite awhile... please don't gravedig, k? If you wanted to ask this guy a question like that... just send him an email.

Post Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:57 am

ya but you never know who might be pulled out of a grave when someone starts gravedigging.

Lol last time i posted here it was after finals week, this time around I'm In finals week
