I have an idea about a model only archive

Here you can discuss building custom ships, texturing and 3D modeling in Freelancer

I have an idea about a model only archive

For if anyone needs models in a pinch they can have models that were submitted by the modeller for use if they are needed. in a raw format ms3d or .max or whatever. and whoever uses them gives credit.

i am all for this idea, it woudl be a great asset.

a single place to go for modders where they can freely download ships and other models for freelancer and put them in thier mods without having to ask permissions, but still having to give credit to the creators.

I would even be will to create the site myself and host it on Samura Studios.

but before i do i would need to know if this is somethign the community would like to see and would use.

Likewise. "The Vault" (http://nwvault.ign.com) is NWN's main resource website, and that has a very efficient filing and search system where people can upload their files, if Lancer's Rea<ctor's system was more easily catagorised and searchable, you could then add a raw models section and it'd be easily searchable without getting the raw files mixed in with the actual ships.

If anyone wants to get their mitts on any of my ships just ask (The Meshes are in MS3D and GMax formats, the skin is available in TGA and CPT (Corel Photopaint Format), I can also send you mesh bitmaps for painting onto fresh.

hello all,

well i am now in the process of building a website for Freelancer Model Repository. It will include the ability for you to upload your model files (in zip format) directly from the website. There will also be a 'Contributors' page that will display a list of who has submitted models. This Will also act as a permanent links page as well.

If you guys have any suggestions as to what type of features you would like to see in it feel free to share them.

---

The idea of this site will be that anyone who submits thier models to it will be giving permission for modders of FL to use these models in thier mods. The ppl downloading the models will still have to give credit to the creators of the models.

Samurai Studios will kick off the repository by putting in several models of our own, our way of giving a little back to the FL community.

Also (maybe) being added to this site will be a Texture section, where ppl can submit textures they would like to share with the FL community.

I will post a news item to TLR when the site is completed.

A Texture section would be AWESOME (PLEASE!) There are some UBER texture makers out there that i want to use some of their stuff (since i'm terrible at making my own ) So please, let's try to do a texture repository as well, guys...I'd DEFINATELY donate any originals i've done...So post here and let Hobbes know!

the freelancer ship & texture repository site is under development. gonan take a few days to complete, mainly because of the browser based upload feature.

as soon as the site is complete i will let you all know.

I've never quite udnerstoood the mentality behind texturing in the Freelancer community, people downlaod prebuilt textures and just slap them on... I mean that kinda works with prerendered models, but typically game models you tradtionally draw all your textures by hand, with pre-done textures only ever used as overlay detail...

Well I for one am all for this idea.
It's nice to see a community where people aren't rabid copyright fanatics.
The SFC(stafleet command) coomunity got to the point where you practically needed a signed contract just to include someones models in a mod even with full credit and glorious praise for the modeller.

Anyway I like the idea 100% and will contribute anything I can.

And some of us just can't DO their own textures very well. /punt.
